just got back from gadget show live ill just give a quick brief round up off some intresesting mobile stuff. It won't be detailed as I'm typing this on the iPad

SGS2- Wow this phone is crazy thin and it is much better built than the old one. Amazing screen . tries too hard to look like an iphone though and samsung skin is mehhhh.

optimise 2x - again nice looking hardware but it feels sluggish due to what LG did with the skin

SE arc- very slim and very nice looking phone. screen looks fantastic but i hate what SE have done to android

SE play- wasn't happy feels cheap and looks tacky . too thick and bulky

Web OS- doesn't feel too different compared to old web os but the hardware is much better and it runs very smooth now

hp touchpad- Very surprised. The hardware looks fantastic its very thin and light. the os is super slick and never slows down. the ability to share info across devices is outstanding. they wouldn't tell me a price or date but if its belows 400 it could be good.

XOOM- lets get this out the way android 3 is simply outstanding, sure it still has its rough parts but on a tablet its visually stunning and imo makes iOS look at bit fisher price. the xoom looks outtstannding although a little heavy . screen seems good but the angles were not great. played HD video nicely.

optimus pad- looks cheap and feels cheap the size is all wrong and it just doesn't appeal at all. also not running honeycomb and bezel was big.

Asus transformer - used it without dock and although bezel seems thicker than xoom its still very sleek. it has a textured back that feels nice to grip. it ran very smooth and its curves feel great. Screen was vibrant with good viewing angles its only 379! great value if they were for sale there and then i would have got one,

viewsonic/eloinex/ rubbish , screens are terrible and even angry birds lags, just cheap plastic rubbish but due to price they were selling very fast. all people were asking the staff was "does it do angry birds?" someone asked how can you get films like itunes and the elonex woman says search google for free movie torrents lol.

overall standouts were the xoom, transformer, sgs2 and touchpad

nvidia guy says quad core cpu by xmas and advent vega was on sale for 200

Which eloinex ?

Did you see any cheap 7" dropads / heropads / jextabs ? Essentially all are
Samsung S5PV210 and on paper very close to a galaxy tab albeit costing £150.

Probably because that's what they wanted you to see ?

Yeah no point buying a tab right now

And by Xmas we will have dates on the next generation of processors... so when do you buy?

Stoke: Thanks for the info about the HP Touchpad its the only one I have not had a chance to play with but interests me the most as a ex-PalmPre user (and fan!).

shame they didn't said the release date of hp touchpad....still waiting for it to see the price...for some reason webOS pulls me its way :) even though I dont have palm..my girl has ;)

At subliminal all the elonex there were total crap. Tried all of them seriously could barely handle switching home screens. There were loads of androids less than £120 the ones I tried were quite frankly unusable. One was very interesting had HDMI out mirroring but then had the worst restrictive screen in the world

Think I'll orderd the transformer. Made a typo in first post I mention the touchpad was a standout not the xoom twice

Yeah the dropads have capacitive screens a decent enough cpu but I'm having a rethink and feel it might be wiser to go with honeycomb and the transformer :o

Thanks

ps Checked the specs on the elonex and they are indeed crap - I thought they had a dropad offering but I'm wrong

I think if you want budget Advent Vega seemed the best to me. But for £329 the transformer is a steal imo

No, the Vega is a dead end - I doubt honeycomb will be possible on it.

£329 for the transformer ?! I need to get a search going

i should add its £379 without the keyboard. The keyboard also acts as an extended battery and adds an extra 9 hours.

If you want both its about £420 still good value imo

Some good info!

The Transformer is pretty decent, although I returned mine, it was just because I'll happily wait until they get it performing just a little better and get a raft more widgets/apps done for honeycomb.

I'm half tempted to get another Vega to tide me over, it's the same processor, and running launcher pro, made it quite a good tablet experience, just the screen lets it down, but for the money, at least it looks ok when viewed head on.

Where did you get to test the transformer? I looked all over but couldn't find it at the show! Obviously didn't look hard enough, or too busy playing mortal combat with my gf :p

My thoughts with the Xoom are exactly the same as yours, especially the heavy bit.
