Anyone not watch the news?

I ditched my tv license out of disgust and unhooked the box last year so rarely see tv or read the newspapers. Not because i don't care it was all just a tad depressing and at the time i had my own stuff going on, can't say i miss it one bit :)

I really don't understand how people could not follow any sort of news ... I just don't understand the mentality of not wanting to know what is going on in the country or the rest of the world.

I check the news on a regular basis.

Can't understand how people don't find out things that happen ... You say it took 2 weeks to realise anything was happening in Japan..

I reckon it would take me less than a day to find out something without watching any news.

Unless I went into the backside of nowhere, someone would say something eventually (in less than 2weeks though)

I was probably being told about japan on the day it happened, but i was probably day dreaming as soon as i hear news related topics:p

If watching depressing news depresses you that much you disconnect yourself from any sort of media (keeping the internet) then you are probably best off kept safe in your own world

I've just read the rest of the posts after the one I quoted, and I'm sorry to say this but people like you really get on my nerves :o

It's more when people believe that they are above it, and that anything that doesn't relate to them directly has no importance on their lives.

I'm curious now, do you know much/anything about history?

I watch the news quite a lot, I like have it on in the background as well when I'm doing something else.

+100

I also cannot understand the mentality of going through life oblivious to the world around them on the wider stage.

I read numerous sources of news, historical and current, I can't imagine being cut off from the world in the way some people seem to be.

Sorry didnt mean to get on your nerves Zefan or anyone else:(
Im not sure where your going with history though?

I find that most of the news stories are made-up or exagerrated, so I've stopped watching the news entirely. I rarely read a newspaper for the same reasons. I recently read the Daily Express while visiting my folks and couldn't believe just how much rubbish it contained.

yup me too

It's not like you're doing it on purpose or anything, it's most likely just my intolerance that's the problem not you :p

With the history thing, I'm just interested if you know anything about it as the people I know that don't take any interest in current affairs also don't know anything about major historical events.

OP reminds me of a couple of students I had.
One of them asked me if the News that was on at 6 pm was different every day
She then found it hard to believe that they could make up a 30 minute programme with all new News :)

Another one argued the toss that the Queen wasn't married because she's not allowed to.
Some of the other kids explained Prince Phillip and their kids but she still shook her head.

Buy a paper a couple of times a week but that's about it, the 6pm news from my experience is just maybe one big story, usually a continuation, and then 25 minutes of absolute rubbish asking random people what they think about nothing issues.
