I have been doing a bit of research and will continue to do more but was after anyone's advice that had previously travelled transatlantic with a pet.

I want to fly with my dog from the UK to Canada but I 100% want the dog in the cabin with me. I understand that I will need a pet passport which takes up to 6 months to obtain.

My dog is a cross between a Toy-Poodle & a Chihuahua & is very small. Weighing in at under 5KG's which is the aloud weight on most airlines. It seems quite easy to take a pet in-cabin flying within the Europe or within Canada. But the lines get a bit blurred when it comes to transatlantic flights.

Any advice or previous experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Im sure the person sat next to you will be happy to be stuck next to a dog in a confined space for at least 8 hrs.

I am pretty sure that animals (especially dogs) have to go into quarantine for about 6 months when they arrive. That is why we decided to leave ours with some friends for 3 weeks while we went.

Correct me if I am wrong :) but that's what I remember.

I thought
Dogs had to go in the hold for long flights? I wouldn't do it to be honest that's a lot of stress our putting on an animal it's bad enough for humans!

Its better off for you and the dog to give it to friends or put it in the kennels then drag it half way round the world.

Why do you want to bring the dog with you??

You want a dog next to you while you fly across the Atlantic. Sorry, but that's just being a bit of a selfish so and so.

you have to keep it in the box and you would generally keep it sedated so it would bother you no more then the person next to you keeping a bag on his or her lap.

I thought it wasnt a good idea to sedate a pet on a long haul flight ? When we looked into bringing our cat over here, the advice was to make sure the airport vets didnt sedate it, as they can die from it.

not if you get it a passport :)

The uk is a rabies-free country so you will not require any quarantine in canada as long as all the paperwork has been done properly.
