Hello,

Was wondering if I bought a car where it's road tax had just finished, am I allowed to drive this on the road to home and park it on the street until I can get a road tax? Will I get stopped by the police, car taken away?

Cheers

no

You're not supposed to, but I would (and have) risked it. Parking it on the street is a bit dodgy though as it's a big fine to release the DVLA clamp if they catch you.

But how can you get it taxed in the weekend? and it's also bank holiday on monday.

My dad bought a car a month ago that didn't have tax and he drove it home, pass police also, nothing happened. The trader who sold the car said it's find because the road tax just finished in that month and apparently your allowed some time.

Car has valid MOT.

MOT means nothing. You should have thought about this before the weekend then, you need tax, just because your dad wasn't stopped doesn't mean you won't be. The trader was talking out of his bum.

Get it sorted on tuesday then. The chances of a DVLA bod doing his tax check rounds on a bank holiday are slim.

But,If you can get it parked on a private driveway then do that instead.

Tell them to do it on the internet if you buy it. It is instant then.

Though not sure if this is possible if it as been declared sorn?

I can park it off road, theres some places round here, but driving it home will be a problem.

Even If i thought about this before the weekend there is not much point, because there are a couple of cars I want to see and one or two have run out of tax.

If the tax is bought online, do you print of the disc yourself?

No you get it sent to you with in 5 working days. Think it will only work if the car as only just ran out of tax? Someone will be along soon to correct this most likely.

If it does work, your number plate will show up as being taxed so you'll be fine if you get pulled.

If the car isn't far, just go view it and leave a deposit if you want it and go fetch it another day?

You can't tax it online if you have just bought the car as the disc will go to the old keepers address. Unless you arrange with the seller to collect the disc when it arrives.

Decided against seeing these untaxed cars, checking the dvla site for one of the cars it looks like its been untaxed since march, so its probably sorned. More hassle then its worth.

Cheers for all the info, can prepare ahead next time.

I think you can still be done for not displaying the disc.

I have bought cars without tax and you can drive them to a DVLA office to change the LOG book and pay for road tax in person IIRC.
