Ok, so my friend downloaded a free template from somewhere like Template Monster (not sure where exactly) but the template included images from Getty Images.

Now, Getty Images emailed him a few months ago saying they were gonna take him to court for £2k.

As soon as he received the email, he removed the images and emailed them back, to which they did not reply.. So he thought no more of it.

He's just got a letter through the post saying again they are taking him to court for £2.5k for refusing to pay up?

What would you do in this situation? Ignore the letter or get the solicitor involved?

The images in question are actually very small and without any form of Getty Images copyright on them..

Cheers

Who is the originator of the email then? Some law firm?

You realise Getty do actually own picscout now?

Brilliant business idea.

1. Setup site that sells templates.
2. Add copyright images to templates.
3. Let people download templates.
4. Once template is downloaded, request money for copyright of images.
5. Await gullible people to send you money.
6. PROFIT!

I really dislike this new culture of sending intimidating letters, it should be law that you must first offer a cease or desist warning, then if that warning is not responded to then take further action.

Loads of people will have downloaded stuff from free template sites without knowing they were breaking a copyright infringement, and would happily remove the content if they knew, these letters are basically just extortion.

Do one dot com.

If what you say is true then it was downloaded via a template site legally as far as you ere aware and when made aware the content was removed.

Send them a picture of your mate's bum.

Simples.
