Virgin 100meg

Sometimes when gaming I'll find myself shooting at a bloke who I just know should have been killed... But he doesn't die!

Know how you feel. Sometimes feels like I shoot someone with a full clip then they turn around hit me with like one bullet and I am dead:/

I have it, and has been said if your hard wired into the superhub then the connection is mental. We have a sub to giganews and maxed out with 50 connections the throughput on average hovers around 102-103 on newsbin.

However, we haven't come close to these speeds when using public http sites like gamershell etc, normally tops out around 60-70. The upload is very handy though, if your on xbox live 9/10 you will get host and we all know what that means.. easy mode :)

I'm switching over to Virgin on Thursday and was very tempted to go 100MB but as I'm currently only getting 10 I thought 50 would see a significant increase. Uploading is traffic managed at peak times but it's still better than what I get with Sky.

Can you use your own router with Virgin?

Aye you can but if your hard wired then it doesn't make much of a difference if you turn off ip flood protection. If your a wireless user then I would recommend that you use your own router, there are simple setup guides on the virgin forums so I would have a look there.

Yeah my setup is all wired so I'll hold off purchasing a router and give the Superhub a chance.

AVOID THE SUPERDUD check the virgin media forums it is a peace of ***** stay with your 50 meg modem and router until its fixed if you are gaming , if you are getting 100 meg installed and have the old 50 meg modem dont let them take it just incse

Won't be long before you will be forced to use the superhub. Even if you have a VMNG300 modem.

We were on the 50Mb plan with a fully working setup for a while (modem + time capsule) and then one day the modem stopped syncing. If you unplug the network cable it syncs fine, plug it back in and it disconnects again.

I thought this was either a faulty modem or router but its not. Engineer came out to check it and even tried another VMNG300 modem he found in his van (brand new in box) and it did the same thing.

We tried our modem with a router, directly connected 3 different model laptops but it kept disconnecting the modem. Engineer plugged in virgin media laptop and all worked.

Only conclusion I am able to come up with thus far is that Virgin Media are rolling out firmware to the older style modems to trash them and force people to upgrade to the StupidHub

So just a little recap:) This 100meg is fine as long as you have it pluged in.

Ye, the wireless on the superhub isn't the best like but for xbox live gaming etc it's fine. I wouldn't even entertain playing PC games wirelessly with it though :)

well im getting a bad line quality and my online games are suffering from it pings are not so good either, Im getting my old modem back and was told that i can get 100 meg speed for it so we will see what happens when it arrives hopefully monday superdud for the bin

Not touching it due to losing the fantastic modem for a "super" hub = crap

I swopped my VMNG300 modem for a Superhub earlier this year on our 50 meg service and it was a mistake. the main problem was a 50% drop in upload speed.
Last week i reinstalled the VMNG300 modem and phoned VM to reactivate it.

Job done.

When 100meg is available to me i will just tell the technician to keep the VNMG300 online and take the Superhub away.

I posted this in the 50Mb thread, perhaps it's best in here:

Gentlemen,

I've been a V man for a very long time. 50mb has been splendid but have noticed 100Mb is now available to me.

Thinking of getting that and the 500GB Tivo, but back to the BB. I use an Apple Airport with the 50Mb router, as I read above will it be ok to keep the router and just 'upgrade' over the phone, reset my router and jolly good show I've got 100Mb? or is this failhub part of the deal?

I'm a VIP with a monthly bill of around £120, includes everything and telephone extra's like caller ID / number withheld blocking and 200 minutes of 08 numbers.

With that in mind anyone reckon I'll be able to swindle the BB upgrade & tivo for free? :p

Tallyho.

Tell them your going to SKY and you will get the world on a stick. Just make sure you ring in the week and in the day, after 5pm is like talking to the dog!

I have just this minute ordered the 100MB, upgrading from the 50MB.

They are coming on Thursday to install it, does anyone know whether they remove the dlink router or leave it behind. (I wouldn't mind keeping it)

Also is the wifi on the superhub really that bad? (gaming computers and xbox are wired) as I use my laptop and tablet on wifi.

I am not sure but I have generally heard that the superhub is generally an all round bad router regardless if it's wifi or lan. I am getting 50mb soon, but I will defo use the superhub just as a modem and my current router as the router.

From what I've read the super-hub is OK with LAN, but some are having serious issues with the wifi.

We shall see on Thursday.

Looking at getting a gigabit switch.
