What do peeps think of the leg animation when vaulting over obstacles?

Have to say I'm firmly in the 'looks very daft' camp. Just looks OTT and gimmicky. Maybe like a multi-stage animation for small/larger obstacles. I mean who jumps over a fence like that? If you're vaulting over something like a normal person, not like a french freerunner, you put a hand down on the obstacle, both legs up together to the side and swing over.

Meh, far from a deal breaker, but if you're asking specifically about the leg animation, there you go!
 
In regards to more choke points, WHY!? They can kill the game completely. Can't think of the name but one of the Vietnam maps has you starting in a choke point where nade spamming wins it for the defenders. Not something we need more of. As for driving / outflanking the enemy, yes I think that's quite a common goal in warfare.

On a side note I'll learn to ignore it, but that animation is just silly. Makes the soldier look a bit 'special'
 
This is the closest topic I could find but I tried BFPlay4Free and oh my lord it is dire. Even on a 1mb connection it lags like it's 1995 all over again.

depends if they mean more choke points in a line as in go through one get to next, or more parallel ones.

So if defenders are entrenched in one you can break through another and flank them.

I thought upload speeds was more crucial for continuity in onling gaming?

What are they? Or is that your upload speed... :o

Not true, the standard sniper rifle for the opfor in the metro map (classes locked down) was the druganov. In a preview I read it stated what the default US sniper was but cant remember :/

Baring in mind that the weapons will be faction specific, which I think is a good touch.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.

I forgot it was nation specific weapons. The US will most likely have the M24 then? And Russians Dragunov?

Nice little touch.
 
Well Im not sure, Im pretty sure that the standard rifle wasnt the m24, Im pretty sure it was semi-auto, possibly the M110 SASS, if I find the preview Ill post the link!

But bare in mind that there will be a lot more unlocks in BF3 (confirmed) than there were in BC2, so Im pretty sure the M24 will be in there somewhere!

After reading a few previews Im getting more and more excited about this game! By the sounds of things sniping will be slightly more complicated (holding your breath) as it should be, prone is also apparently perfect, not being too quick to lay down, but not taking too long either.

And by the sounds of things the game feels a lot more like BF2 than BC2 or COD, which Im sure many people (myself included!) will be glad to hear :)
 
So far its got more in common with BC2 to than BF2, this to the detriment of teamplay.

Regen health
commo rose still not confirmed
No commander
lame 3D spotting
Only 4 man squads opposed to 6 in BF2
 
Raven, regen health and spotting wont be an issue if you're playing in hardcore so dont worry too much! From reading previews from BF2 fans that played it at E3, they say that it feels more like BF2 than BC2.
 
Ive read a few previews of this and Im liking what I hear!
Snipers now have to hold their breath to get an accurate long range shot in! woop :)

Also it seems that tanks/troop transports get knocked out before they expode.

So say you have a full APC storming towards the objective, it gets damaged to the point at which it gets knocked out, the rocket that knocks it out may kill the person its closest too (driver/gunner/passenger) but it will not yet explode, giving the remaining crew/passengers time to bail out, or in the case of the gunner carry on shooting (but the vechicle is unable to move) obviously if it gets hit again its gets blown up, but engineers have time to bring it back.

In regards to these whines about the vaulting animation, sure you could make it slow and labourious, but who wants that?

No one wants to loose control of their player for 5 sec while they vault over a wall, much better to make it a quick 1-2 sec vault that while, not being particularly true to life, serves the purpose of looking good (seeing all the body helps with immersion imho) and not taking too much time to action.

Seems much better for an APC/Tank to potentially lose some men in an RPG attack as 'may' happen in real life. I would still like the potential for a killing blow on a APC/tank, rather than a set serious of events.

No one is whining about the 'speed' of the vaults, only the ridiculous animation of your leg's being flung out in front of you - as said, fine for mirror's edge, but simply does not suit a war game. It's not been released yet so it may change.
 
you mean the people that sprint non stop for 30 minutes jump madly while firing a heavy machine gun. regularly jump off buildings AND PULL A BLOODY PARACHUTE OUT OF THEIR ARSE ONLY 4 METERS OFF THE FLOOR yet no it's the vaulting that you find unrealistic?

ROFL... get a grip bud, and stay in context. Where did I mention a parachute at any point? That's right I didn't because I was talking about the animation. I think parachutes are silly also, but I don't see that animation :-P Really was no need to go all keyboard warrior now was there?

Yeah i know what you mean about the killing blow, well Im not 100% on how it works yet, but possibly if you hit the sweet spot in the rear it may cause it to explode straight off? Of its its "health" is particualy low and you fire a high powered launcher at it?

Because a soldier wouldn't throw his leg's out in front of him like that. Whether it's intended or not it 'look's like the leg's are coming out at 90 degrees to the body, both at the same time. (I have only watched one video in low res so far though). I'm no soldier, but I imagine they would most like go over slanted with legs to the side, possibly using one hand, or two if they had a sling for their weapon.

The downside of climbing over something rather than going around, is that you ARE disadvantaged and vulnerability IS increased. To me at least on most of the stuff released so far (marketting wise) is that it's more mil-sim format. To go back to the original point, Mirror's edge is all free-style movement and large leaps etc, so the grandness of leg's being thrust out in front seem's more fitting.

Yeah, I entirely agree! :-) I really like that you can see your body. I don't want a simulator (just yet), I want to enjoy a game, but I would like at least those little details to be reasonably right.

Be interesting to see what they do release with damage etc. I like a little randomness :-) I suppose there is only so much they can keep tabs on to keep the server/netcode reasonably quick.

Yeah we've gotta also bare in mind that they are really trying to steal the COD fanbase, so if they had some long drawn out vaulting animation, it would upset people.

Either way I think this game is gonna be awesome, I cant wait to see some of the unlocks/weapon upgrades.

Confirmed that there are 3 attachments slots for weapons (barrel,sight,underbarrel(?)) which can all be changed out to add customability, also when using vechicles you can level up with that vechicle, which means added machine guns, missile launchers etc

I suppose it's gotta try and steal some of the CoD base, in as much as any MMO has to try and steal WoW's base. I'm not complaining that the animation is there, it just seems inappropriate style, almost like a slide.

Anyway.. it's a long wait till November, gonna have to get some other FPS practice in as I've been sorely missing multiplayer.
