Renault have posted this morning with a new lap record for the new megane 265 trophy......8:07.97....with the prospect of a slightly faster time still on the cards!

Very very impressive, moreso because its not had to go to very extreme measures over the normal 250 to achieve it!

credit to renault for wanting to constantly improve rather than languishing in mediocrity like many other manufacturers

Was just reading about this, on regular road tyres too apparently.

Very impressive time!

To put it into perspective, here are some of the machines that posted similar times:

8:05 BMW M3 E92
8:06 Subaru WRX STi Spec-C
8:07 BMW Z8 E52
8:07.97 Renault Megane RS Trophy
8:09 Audi RS4
8:09 BMW M6 E63 259 km/h speed limiter.[citation needed]
8:09 Honda NSX-R modification.[citation needed]

That really isn't a bad place to be!

Wow!

This thing must corner like a fly as it certainly hasn't got the power to keep up with the cars around it on the straights.

Such a shame it's FWD though... I would much rather have any of the three above or below it.

Although... the renault is by far the cheapest there, so another impressive point...

Very impressive time and makes me want a 250 even more now.

I wonder how much power the '265' is actually making as I remember Autocar/Evo had a stock 250 that actually made around 275.

Stripped and lightened maybe? Just seems odd that a 350+bhp Impreza, and a 400+bhp M3 would only be 1-2 seconds quicker.

If it is a representative time of the production model it's very impressive.
