So I'm sat here waiting for the car to be picked up.

It was in the Corsa not the 530d which I suppose is a small blessing.

Stationery at a roundabout with one car in front of me, there was a gap in traffic, I went and the car in front didn't. :(

Stupid mistake but these things happen.

He had a busted rear bumper, I've got a smashed windscreen and two blown airbags but it doesn't look like any structural damage.

We've swapped details and he drove off - a nice traffic plod came to see if I was ok.

It's my girlfriends car and her policy (with me as a named driver) so she is on the phone to the insurance trying to get me picked up...

wow, smashed sindscreen for a low speed impact? that's unlucky! I think in the high speed rear end i was in the only part of the car that wasnt damaged was the windscreen!

Did you hit him hard then? Seems odd that the airbags would go off and the windscreen smashed!

It sounds that he was watching the traffic instead the car in front and when he saw the gap he thought the car in front going or gone so I suspect there was no braking at all, just stationary to First Gear and foot down.

It can't be going that fast though, unless you were miles behind the other car, and you would still be in first gear.

This confuses me a lot, how hard did you hit them?

Me too, aren't airbags designed specifically so as not to inflate at low speed collisions? I assumed it was something like a 25mph collision before they inflated. (I'm willing to be corrected on this mind)

Depends on several factors, speed isn't the only one.

Most people learn when they're 17 to watch the car in front and not the roundabout, until it's completely clear in front :p.

Hard luck, everyone's either done it or been very close at one stage. Must be the most common cause of car accident.

He doesn't need to hear this now. Sorry for your troubles mate, glad everyone's ok, as that is all that matters really. :)

Sat waiting for a train now, car has been recovered and will be inspected by insurers. Will find out in 'up to 10 working days'.

I think the windscreen went because it had a small chip in it. Those Autoglass adverts are good for something at least. :p

This is exactly what happened.

I know this already, just a momentary lapse of concentration which I why I said stupid mistake. I feel embarraced more than anything.

You can always rely on Motors to point out your shortcomings whether you want to hear them or not. I wouldn't expect any less. :)

Someone has said it already, no one was hurt and in the end it's just plastic and metal. I expect it will be a write-off 03 Corsa C with 75k on the clock. Probably time to start looking for a new car. :(

Stuff happens that's what insurance is for, I find myself having to actively concentrate on roundabouts as it's natural when the car in front starts moving to have a look and see if it's ok for you to go as well, couple of times the daft git stops half way across the give way line and I've had a 50p 5p moment.

If it's only bumper, bonnet windscreen and a few other bits and bobs I'd be tempted to buy it back and get some bits off ebay, there must be thousands of Corsa bits and you'll be quids in. Unless of course it's the excuse you need to get something else.

I had thought about this but I'm not really sure what's involved.

I'll talk to my girlfriend (her car after all) and see what she thinks. It also depends what the insurers decide to do and how much they will pay out if the decide it can't be fixed.

About a week after passing I had a really close call with one of these, was a huge gap and the old dear in her i10 didn't move. :/

Either way, gave me a wake up call and now i'm extra careful, amazing how many hesitant people there are on the road.

Still, glad you're alright. :)
