Battlefield Bad Company 2 keeps crashing/freezing

Okay, so at first I thought because of the insanely hot weather, my system was crashing whenever I was playing BC2, usually in the middle of the third match, sometimes sooner. But because today was significantly cooler, I think I'm wrong now.

I've tried playing today a few times, and on every occasion I've had the game either shut down on me and close to desktop, or freeze my system, bringing me to force restart. I tried a few other games to see if this might be an encompassing issue, but I was able to run The Witcher 2 on Ultra, Crysis 2 on Extreme with the new DX11 patch and hi-res pack active, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and they all ran absolutely fine. The thing is, BC2 runs fine; perfectly even. With nearly everything cranked I can get over 70fps on it, but it still crashes for some reason.

Does anyone know what the fault might be? My system's an OCUK built one with 2x Gigabyte GTX 460s running in SLi (both with decent temperatures, even in game), and an i7 950 @4GHz. I get the feeling it's more inherent to the game, but I can't find much online about the issues.

Thanks in advance!

Are you running msi afterburner? that is known to cause crashes in BC2, when i got rid of it, no more crashes :) But sorry im not sure what else it could be.

No, I just use Nvidia's control panel for fan control.

Shot in the dark - tried manually updating punkbuster?

I just installed the updated May release now, doesn't the game update PB though?

1st things to do with bfbc2 problems which are almost standard now :p

remove over clock
try to stop all over lays
update pb (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php )
if running steam try turning off some off the features as these can freeze lag in settings
after burner if you use it i believe there are fixes for that now.

certain sound issues. if you have sound card try on board or vice verca see if problem goes away.

thing is this is why bf can be so infuriating as there are still so many problems that are unsolved . hopefully for bf3 they have them sorted.

You will likely never get this fixed, never and if you do, please tell me.

I suffer from ramdon for no reason crashes to desktop for no reason, happens maybe a few times per day but I can get a good 2 or 3 hours out of the game before it happens.

I had my first freeze the other day playing Battlefield, ending up verifying the game date files in steam. It had to re-download 1.2mb of updates.

It could be as simple as a corrupted game file.

I believe I have solved the 2 causes of frequent (but sporadic) crashes in BFBC2:

1) White screen of doom (this can be Ctrl+Alt+Del'd) - caused by overclocked GPU/MSI AFterburner

2) Hard crash (totally unresponsive system) and horrible noise from speakers - caused by onboard Realtek soundcard.

The various errors ive had with bfbc2 since release are.

Onboard sound causing crashes, fixed this by using a dedicated soundcard

White screen, this was a problem with certain nv drivers if using more than 4x aa

Ctd on map load/hard crash with juddering sound. Afterburner and pb not playing well together, solved this by renaming the RTcore.cfg file in afterburner settings.
