D & G are actually going to repair my tv, and it's going to cost nearly a thousand pounds...i have a SONY KDS55A2000.... its got the dreaded green haze, so it needs a new optical block

but the thing is my tv is over 5 years old which means they should only pay for 50% of a new tv.....now the 50 '' panny is only 600 quid, but they'd rather pay a thousand to fix the old one....this is crazy, so i rang them up to double check

but hay i'm not complaining because the sony is flipping excellent P.Q, i told them about the dead cheap Panny and they said no we're going to fix your old tv .... (they are entitled to only pay 300 quid towards the Panny)

in addition; the tv repairers said to me ``this tv is scrap, we always scrap it because it costs too much to fix`` this is crazy but true, i need a bloody drink after this, most odd.... very bloody odd

With that kind of repair bill & no Insurance on it, most people would scrap the TV anyway regardless of how good it was. I certainly would as my TV now is 6 years old & positively stone age/clockwork/antique in TV circles these days.

D & G are paying for it i think..... but maybe Sony are.... because the repair shop in Southampton said that Sony have changed their policy recently and decided to fix this tv...

he was a quiet man of few words... he told me, ``we have fixed this tv before, it should last another 3 years, it'll take me 2 weeks to fix it``.... but the guys that collected it for him said ``we know this tv well, it'll be scrapped``....i thought ``oh no``

i'd rather have a 50'' Panny, but not by much, because as long as they've fixed it ok i dont give a damn, because the Panny isn't that much better, it can be argued to be about the same.

the Panny is only much better on SD and only really on the 42'' screen, because their 50'' screen is blurry too on SD.

IT'S STRANGE TO NOTE THOUGH:- that the best tv is still the 30'' CRT, yes indeed, the image still looks great even after 13 years and it hasn't broken down once !

got the tv back today, they rang me up at 7.20am in the morning to tell me they were on their way.... bloody hell that's early

they replaced the optical block with a brand new assembly, the tv looks fantastic now, as good as new.

it wasn't just the dreaded green haze, because it looks different to what it did BEFORE i got the green haze, the colours are so vivid and beautiful now, he said the new block will last about 3 years, but as long as it's still working after DOOM 4 comes out i dont mind!

i would say this tv looks as good as our 42'' G20 Panny, but because it's a far bigger screen it's not as sharp on SD.

by then, i expect a brand new 50'' plasma will only cost 600 quid!
