Benefits of Console v PC?

Get all 3 simples.

I use my 360 to rest my leg on while playing BF3 Alpha (or did do)

The PS3 is not bad for Uncharted though :D

Pc being my main platform, consoles have the advantage of letting me have a nice relaxed game led on the sofa.

When you have friends around it's much easier to play together on a console.

Console games are not plagued by DRM that frustrates and sometimes effects the game, Witcher 2 being the most recent, It was a brilliant game but the DRM stunted the performance, after removing it I got around a 40% boost in performance.

Easy to move around, I often visit my brother for a few weeks and take the Ps3 or Xbox down so we can play on Fifa, so much easier than taking down my Pc.

Far less hackers and cheaters on consoles. I hardly ever encounter people hacking on consoles where as on the Pc I can sometimes run into a few a night.

Tbh I'll always be a Pc gamer at heart and I will always prefer Pc over consoles, however there are games on consoles which will keep me coming back, Demon's Souls was the game of this generation for me and I can't wait for Dark Souls to be released. I've always believed that if you're really serious about gaming and want to get the most out of games then Pc is the way forward, the improved graphics, performance and Mods created by the gaming community can really transform games and take them to the next level. I don't mind the extra price of new components because I know that I will get the most out of them, and it's not as if I have to upgrade every year, I upgrade maybe every three years. By that time theres usually another console released or planned, so it's more or less the same price as buying a new console.

Thats just me though and I understand why people would choose consoles over Pc's, at the end of the day it's your own decision and you should do what you think you will enjoy more :)

The games really.

Many games don't come out on pc or are heavily delayed on pc or the pc version is rubbish ie fifa. Most of the games i am hyped for this year aren't going to pc.

keeping a gaming PC up to spec every 2 years sucks and costs £££, consoles give continuity in both performance and controls. ok so after a few years they look graphically dated compared to a top spec pc, but the 360 & PS3 still hold their own well enough. the ability to trade in and buy used games saves a fair bit of cash. i also like having the disks, not a fan of digital distribution on the pc but that is personal preference. gaming on a console is more sociable than a pc as well, esp COD et al co op modes

nothing beats the pc for rts games though but you can run those on a modest laptop. for me console + laptop is the best solution & takes up the least space

It's more of a even playing field with consoles. Everyone using the same controllers, same speed hardware etc so advantages are kept at a minimum. Less cheaters as well. Not saying consoles are immune to all this but is a lot less. Xbox live is a excellent service too.

one of the biggest issues for me is space. Other than making a dedicated gaming PC, I'd have no use for it. I have a laptop whic manages everything else a PC can. Why do I want to take up property real estate with a massive rig?

Xbox for me just works, the graphics are fine, more than playable, online with friends is just epic. I wish that they would combine PSN and XBL together though, but that will never happen.

Also, mrk1@1 always goes on about hackers in CoD Black Ops and MW2 on the xbox. LOL, he's just not very good.

4) Rhythm games. PC has Frets on Fire, consoles have Rock Band. No contest.

Just thought you might be interested - there's a free game on PC called osu! which is actually the best rhythm game I have ever played by far. I've played a lot of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but osu! is just plain better. Check it out.

PC Gaming will ALWAYS be the best way. However, it all depends on how you want to game.

For example, I used to have a beast of a rig in it's day, but I sold it all for a nice big TV, sound system and a 360...

The reason was I wanted to sit back on my sofa and relax, yes I miss the graphics, messing around with options and general fiddling with drivers and stuff to get the best I could!

But nothing can compare to getting home with a new game, sticking it in the 360, set it off to install to HDD whilst you make a cup of tea ect ect. Then just sit back, play and stretch out!

Arcade games
Better exclusives and far more of them (subjective, I know ;))
Plug and play
Split screen/party games

If it wasn't for online fps, which to be fair aren't that great on the PC these days if you don't like or are bored of CoD/BF/TF2/CS:S, I wouldn't bother keeping an uptodate gaming PC.

Osu! as in "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!"?

Witcher 2 was drm free wasn't it?

Well, owning a PC, PS3 and Xbox360 I would say:

Cost: I don't care what anyone says. console gaming is far cheaper than keeping a modest but upto date PC. People who say "console games cost £40-£50" are mostly talking rubbish. They cost £40 on release (or ~£37.99 is you search the usual sites) but the majority of them drop to less than £20 within a month or 3. Couple this with the fact that you can sell the games on and you really can game for pennies. Buy a 2nd hand game for a decent price and there's little reason why you couldn't sell it for about the same price.

Online: Online used to be one of the big advantages of the PC but both the Xbox360 and PS3 have a brilliant online service. Being able to turn it on and see what games your friends are playing (and even which map and game mode) and then being able to just join their game is great. The closest you will get to that on the PC is Steam. It's quite rare I get talking to someone at work etc and find that they have Steam but loads of people have the consoles. Even then, they might be playing a game that isn't on Steam.

Less Distraction Probably more of a personal one to me and open to dispute but if I decide to spend 2 hours gaming on the PC, it often ends up being less than half of that because of this website etc:p If I put the PS3 on for 2 hours, I make 2 hours progress in a game.

Graphics The PC version of a game almost always looks better than the console version but the difference is usually exaggerated. PCs are far more powerful but games are designed for consoles and often look amazing considering the specs. The PC version will look better but how much better and at what cost. Don't get me wrong, there are some shining examples of a PC version being quite a bit better but for every one of those, there's 10 games without a huge difference. It's surprising how much 2009/2010/2011 console games look better than 2006/2007 games. I think maybe some PC-only games don't get to see this.

Exclusives There's so many essential games that are console only or PS3 only. I'm not even going to bother listing them.

Exellent write up... 100% agree...

to be honest with this generation of consoles and their update per minute especially on ps3,together with often required installs - consoles are quickly becoming more hassle then pcs. Anyone that often has problems with pcs basically needs to get a new one, any half decent pc can install and play games with no effort at all.
and people talking about driver updates are clearly living in 1997.

this should not be used as an advantage- console games are increasingly seeing forms of drm through online passes etc , their will be a time in the next few years where you wont be able to trott along to game and pick up second hand games or sell them on. publishers are cracking down hard on stuff like this given it earns them a whole £0.00p.

So we cant list it as an advantage because something may happen in the future?

I love gaming on both PC and console, I love PC gaming because of the customisation and the fact that I can play at 1920x1080 on any game I want at 60fps and I love console gaming because there are a lot of games that get crazy amounts of funding from MS/Sony that wouldn't be possible on PC

I'm giving it a download now, I heard of it a year or so ago but wasn't too impressed at the time, just seemed like a very watered down version of Ouendan. Sounds like they've really ramped it up in terms fo features now though.
