Anyone upgraded from a Samsung 2443BW/2433BW? What did you go for?

As post title, I have a 2443BW but lately been itching for something a bit newer/shinier. Has anyone made a similar move recently, and if so:

- What did you get?
- Was it worth the upgrade?

I am a medium-hardcore gamer when I can spare a few minutes i.e. I mainly use the PC for gaming, and love FPS MP games like BC2 and UT3.

Would love a screen that is vibrant, as I will be watching movies/TV shows/photos on the screen as well. Any recommendations are very welcome!

Thanks :)

I too have the same monitor as you and I'm getting that itch to upgrade. My problem is I want to goto 27" 3D monitor yet I can't find any that support normal PC resolutions. What I mean is non of this 1080 crap like what the other half has. I'm wanting someone to release a monitor that has a nice high resolution and can do 3D. Actually can someone explain why 90% of monitors these days are 1080 ?

I am debating about trading my 2443 in for a SA850 depending on what they are like and the price. I couldn't see myself going smaller than 1920.1200 now I have used it. Ergo the only way is up.

Awaiting Hazro's price changes and then buying a HZ27WD. Have a 2443BW and its **** poor white/gray contrast along with it's bad vertical viewing angle made me look at other panels.
Never really liked this 2443BW aside from its resolution, it's worse than my (2 years!) older 206BW. Using a dual monitor setup and everytime I have a problem with contrast on the 2443bw I move the window over to the 206BW and then I can see everything fine.

Wow, I would not say my 2443BW is all that bad! Which price changes are you waiting for exactly? Just price drops in general or is there something more specific you had in mind?

If you want an upgrade from the 2433/2443 and want to maintain 1920x1200/16:10 then a good option is the Dell U2412M which is currently priced at £300.

It may be more than you payed for the samsung, but to get a new 24in with this size/res panel then this is pretty much the cheapest option. Also, instead of TN panel you get a lovely E-IPS panel, it performs well in games (as well as less fast-paced tasks), comes with a nice stand and an excellent Dell warranty. Here is an in-depth review.

1080p is great! Go 1080p 120Hz or 2560x1440.

As long as you go 16:9 you cant really go wrong. Great for entertainment and work.

Del is not a good choice here. 16:10 is for work only and a horrible choice for a monitor that is supposed to work for games, movies and TV. Also Dell U2412M is pretty slow for an IPS so expect ghosting.

It's personal choice I guess, but I would imagine those who already use a 1200p monitor like the 2433 or 2443 would rather stick with it rather than "downgrade" to 1080p with it's lower number of total pixels and lower vertical resolution.

As for 2560x1440, these monitors tend to be really good and the resolution is lovely (high DPI when coupled with a 27in monitor) plus as far as I can tell they are exclusively IPS panels, however these monitors tend to be a good deal more expensive than the £300 Dell U2412M.

It's very much determined by what you do, many would argue that most games look better on a 16:10 screen. As for general applications use, having a more square screen (with a larger total area for the same diagonal area) is usually beneficial - as is the higher number of total pixels compared to 1080p.

Not used one of these Dell E-IPS panels I take it? They are among the fastest IPS panels in use and also come with nice low input lag. Many who use them for gaming find them well up to the task (just have a search on these forums for U2311H or 2209WA).

In this in-depth review it describes the gaming ability of the U2412M as:

The responsiveness of the U2412M should be perfectly fine for some most moderate to high gaming and shows a nice low level of motion blur assuming you leave the OD control turned on. The small overshoot is a shame really as the dark trail is an unwanted result of the applied RTC impulse. Having said that, it isn't as bad as some other models we have seen including Dell's own U2711 and certainly the gamer orientated BenQ XL2410T. There's not much in it when comparing the pixel responsiveness of the U2410 and U2412M but the newer model perhaps has the slight edge I think.

U2311H is much faster than U2412M so you can hardly base U2412M on that U2311H is pretty fast. Also the overdrive trailing for U2412M which also is mentioned in your review make it something you avoid for gaming.

But as said U2412M has also the wrong aspect ratio. The gaming industry has started to phase out 16:10 support. In 2011 the amount of games that does not support 16:10 has exploaded so in the future you will be forced to play in 16:9 either you like it or not.

If you read the article it says:
The U2412M performs similarly to the U2311H as well although the dark overshoot of the overdrive impulse is perhaps a little more prevalent than the slightly pale overshoot seen on the 23" U2311H.

So I wouldn't classify the U2311H as "much faster" based on that.

The "wrong aspect ratio", what a crock.

I would love to see a list of the 2011 games that don't support 16:10. If you are thinking of mentioning The witcher 2, that has been patched along with many other oversights.

Just to mention a few from 2011

Some examples of games from 2011 that does not support 16:10

Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Alice: Madness returns
Bastion
Bulletstorm
Dungen Siege 3
Dungeons
Ghostbusters: Sanctum Of Slime
Monday Night Combat
Ninja Blade
Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Witcher 2 (Before patched after many months)

16:9 offers much better support in games which is not strange because games are made for that aspect ratio.

and U2412M is much slower than U2311H

I have the U2412M on another PC and notice no ghosting, lag etc.. Seems perfect for gaming. Maybe if I was a competitive FPS player it mightn't be but any game I've tried is fine.

Also, why is this 16:10 v 16:9 argument being dragged up again. Everyone I know has no issues with 16:10 for PC gaming except Trana who keeps bringing this up. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but it's getting very tiresome looking at the monitor forums only to see this argument about why 16:9 is no good for games, again and again and again. It's a broken record mate.
