All iPhone 5 speculation/rumours/wants thread

It is indeed a remarkable piece of hardware and for me personally has meant a netbook is not required at all on my travels because absolutely everything I do on a netbook can be done on the S2 from the way I managed documents and data between services (chatting on Mumble, downloading music/movies, controlling a PC/media player, quickly moving/copypasting files from phone to and from bluetooth, ftp, LAN over wifi to watching 1080p HD BluRay rips on the HDTV over HDMI and playing Emulators on it etc etc).

Heck I can even back up my DSLR's compact flash card on to my phone when out shooting and I manage to fill all my cards as it can act as a USB host.

But yeah, different strokes for different folks!

I recently upgraded to an S2 and I kid you not it is right to be tempted. Brilliant phone! I switched from a touch and my word it is so much nicer in every possible respect. TBH I don't really agree with the pro-apple reasons given further up the thread but each to their own. The best reason to own an S2 is to not be tied down by apple, a company which likes to tie down their users, who are remarkably patient with missing or broken features! I am sure there will be a fair few of these with the iPhone 5 and I have no patience with Apple anymore! Do not want!

This is my view :)

But still, this close I suppose it would be stupid not to wait to see what Apple have to offer

You upgraded from an iPod touch to a phone? I'm not surprised its better, with all the making phone calls and so on, real killer feature ;P

Like Windows Phone then?;)

Although I admit there arent as many apps on it at the moment (only around 30k).

Windows Phone 7 will be like Zune all over again.

Too Little too late.

I mean really, Fall 2011 to release a smartphone OS with multi tasking ? who are they kidding.

I know some of the other phones out there have slightly faster hardware, but I still wouldn't swap any of them for my iPhone4. Take the Galaxy S II for example, yes it's powerful, but it looks and feels like it's made from recycled pop bottles! And it's design? Well it just looks like a cheap iPhone knockoff to me. I like something made out of decent materials and a classy design for my £500 thanks! Each to their own though :)

You upgraded from an mp3 player to a phone, that's what you're basing your opinions on? Get real.

So, no one knows anything about the 5th gen iPod touch? :(

Think I'll wait and see if they're released at the same time...

(oh yeah, loving Robbo's sensationalist Android/Apple posts over the last month, missing your weekly notw fix buddy? :D)

I just noticed that. Hilarious.

Classic case of "Well, I've bought this now so it's the best no matter what!" :D

I also enjoyed the relatively baseless "tied down by Apple" comments too.

Well, people ask and I tell them. As you've probably noticed, what I say is pretty accurate most of the time. I don't think I've ever read NoTW! :p

Just checked out O2 ridiculous tariffs these days, looks like I will be looking for a new network come the next upgrade. So looking forward to that hassle :(

1. You forget. Apple released a smartphone is years after others. Seems they did ok... ;)

2. When did iOS get multitasking? Last year wasn't it?

Zune all over again? Zune is still around, it now makes calls... So yes, it is exactly like zune. :p

Whatever, I can't see WP having less than a 10-20% share in the next year or two but that wasn't the point of the post at all...

Potential First Released Photo Taken by an iPhone 5

Pocketnow.com reports that it has discovered a new photo that may have been taken by an iPhone 5. According to the report, EXIF data indicates that the photo was taken by an iPhone 4, but the original image checked in at nearly 8 megapixels prior to cropping, higher than the iPhone 4's 5-megapixel resolution and in line with rumors for the iPhone 5.

This (very attractive) photo claims to have been taken by an iPhone 4, but the rest of its EXIF data tells a different story: although the image has been cropped to 2235x2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original picture was a much larger 3264x2448 -- or just shy of eight megapixels. What's more, the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4's actual 3.85mm f/2.8.

Looks like we'll be getting the expected camera upgrade then.

Everybody berated apple for being late to the game with a multitasking OS. That was in handsets July last year. Microsoft announces it will bring multitasking to its OS in fall This year. So nearly 18 months later. So apple gets berated, but for microsoft its fine ?

The Zune players were released in 2006, only a few years after the iPod became incredibly successful, and i don't have to spell out what a disaster they were.

So much so, that there is still speculation abound that the devices will be scrapped altogether they are that unpopular.

Apple won. Microsoft was too late to the game, and didn't properly understand what consumers want.

The mobile phone market will be the same story all over again.

This sums up microsofts fate quite nicely IMO

I cant see Microsoft being forced out, not every thing that they do is crap. Metro as a UI is good for the Phone OS as it sits well between iOS and Android.

Lets not forget they came back from Vista with Win 7, created a games console that now rivals Sony and Nintendo after two generations. Kinects also has revived sales in the console, its now moving into the PC area this year.
Win 8 due soon will see Metro spread to cover all platforms from PC to tablet to Phone with a Software shop.

Once we see Win 8 I think we will see tablet competition truly take off. No Apple telling you what you are allowed to view on the web and no rancid multi UI and version OS that is android with crappy apps.

Lets face it they are all trying to hive you off into their own little worlds, I've been dragged into Apples via phone but boy gum I'm not going to be dragged in more via their tablet and sure as am hell not ever going to use their desktop OS.

The new gen of Ultrabooks that have shown up are starting to spar with the Air every well now so lets now see the PC companies start to match build quality so we get some parity in materials and quality cause thats all I want of the PC side of computing.

At least with Apple being strong we will see new challengers come to the party and we can see them go at it hammer and tong.

I'm really not happy that they are waging IP wars just now though! Cause its hacking me off and that route is bad for their image.
