Hey Guys,

trying to workout what type of leather is in my 2004 E46 330CI. I am looking to carry out some leather restoration and re-colouring on my front seats and want to get a good colour match. The leather is black but don't know if its montana, nappa, dakota, oregon etc.

Does any one know which type of leather options where offered in 2004?

Thanks Fox, been trying to work this out for ages, even rang the BMW dealership and gave them my chassis number and they still could not tell me.

If you call their premium rate number they'll be able to tell you, along with every other option your car has.

They're pretty quick so it'll cost you £2-3 maximum to find out for sure.

The dealership couldn't tell you, or wouldn't tell you?

I always had problems trying to get information out of BMW Bluebell Wilmslow, just before I sold the 330d I was trying to get a replacement boost hose and was on my mobile in an area in which I had no 3G (or even Edge) signal, so getting to RealOEM wasn't an option, my laptop was dead so I couldn't fire up TIS either. I had narrowed it down to 1 of 3 parts by giving the guy on the phone the best description I could, even which screen it was on in TIS, and asked him to read me the part number so that when I returned to the car I could check and then get back to him.

I was told that BMW don't give out part numbers as it's against their policy.

In a similar vein, we had real problems getting parts for my mates 318Ti in which we had swapped in an M52B25 engine. If we gave them the reg or VIN, they would only ever let him order parts for the 318Ti, so we ended up having to use my details (when I had an e36 325i) to buy parts.

It's a joke really, Audi have been nothing but incredibly helpful for me so far, even helping me to understand wiring schematics and order parts from other vehicles in order to do a couple of retrofits (namely front PDC, graphical display of parking distance and reversing camera). I've ordered A8 parts, Q7 parts, and parts not specified to my vehicle, all without issue, they also know exactly what parts my car should have in it's order spec.

Nice to hear of a dealer being helpful for a change !

That's not to say that I ever got a bad service from Bluebell, if I told them exactly what I wanted (and it fitted my car, such as when I replaced the center console for the drinks holder version, supposedly not possible to fit due to armrest, which is false but never mind), they would get it, same day or next wherever possible.

They also used to discount me parts due to being a repeat customer, and were always friendly enough, just not particularly helpful at wandering off the beaten track.

It will almost certainly be Dakota or Montana. Nappa was a rare and expensive option.

I see you have edited your post to include Montana, is there anyway to distinguish between the two? Do you know what type your 530i has?

That is where I am planning to order my colourant kit from and TBH i think it is dakota leather, the montana looks too dark.
