Hi,

I have been tasked with finding/speccing up two new laptops for our team at work and have been set a max budget of 1K each.

Need to be able to run VM's, ideally portable as we do a lot of travelling and for that purpose also well made

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not the prettiest laptop but I'd definitely take a look at the ThinkPad range, specifically the X220 (12.5") or the T420 (14")

For under £1000 you can get a Thinkpad T420 with:

14.0 HD+ (1600 x 900) - High resolution matte screen, usable even in direct sunlight
Intel Core i5-2520M 2.5GHz
8GB PC3-10600 DDR3
320GB 7200 RPM HDD
6 or 9 cell battery
3 Year Warranty
etc.

The build quality is amazing, they can withstand a lot of punishment, it's not too heavy (2 - 2.2KG) and they have a decent battery life.

That sounds pretty decent, but cant seem to find that sort of spec for the money

On the Lenovo website start with the base T420 (£848.20) customize -> add: High res screen (+ £55.56), 8GB RAM (+ £96) = £999.76 incl vat + del. Also you could save £50 per-laptop if you were willing to upgrade the RAM yourself.

have a look on the lenovo site lenovo.co.uk

very rare for a reseller to be cheaper than lenovo at the moment. lenovo actually use the term 'epic battery' on the overview page, lol.

anyway you can get it direct from lenovo here http://shop.lenovo.com/gbweb/gb/en/notebooks/thinkpad/t-series/

cheapest way is to upgrade the memory yourself.

with the i5, 1600x900 screen, 3 year c&r warranty (standard on these) and 2gb memory it comes in at £900,

I use on a daily basis a T410 with a i5 560M CPU.

Can highly recommend it.......have used various Thinkpads for the last 8 years never had an issue......
