Im looking to find which is best for 2x HD 1920x1080 monitors ATI 6970 Vs 570 GTX. Or if anyone can give me a better set-up it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Both will run two monitors absolutely fine and offer very similar performance. Reference GTX570's run slighlty cooler & quieter than reference 6970's, but there is really nothing between these cards.

My personal suggestion would be to get a 6950, which for ~£50 less will also offer very similar performance once it has been overclocked to 6970 levels.

Are you planning on playing games on 2 screens?

The best setup is either 1 or 3.

Not that a GTX 570 can't run 3 screens but a HD 6950 can.

Note that surveyor made a typo above, he meant to say the 570 CAN'T do 3 screens :)

But yeah, you can game on two screens (not properly anyway)
I suggest you get a third in which case you'll need a 6950 or two Nvidia cards :)

I only have 2 screens and generally do have 2 games running on each screen. i don't see my upgrading to 3 screens, so which is the best option for just 2.

...but can't you overclock most GTX570's to close to GTX580 levels?

They are pretty much the same performance-wise. I'd lean towards the 6970 option because for the same money you get 2gb instead of 1.25gb of ram.

This, they both perform about the same, it's game dependant!

If the 6950 Toxic can overclock past 580 levels, why wouldn't a 6970?
Mileage varys on all the cards, it's pot luck.

For a single screen, usually I would consider the GTX570 superior due to better overclock ratio (GTX570 overclock from 732MHz to 855~905MHz is 17-24%, whereas the 6970 overclock from 880MHz is to 950~1000MHz is only 8~13.5%).

But for OP's scenerio of running two games simultaneously at the same time, I would say the extra VRAM would be more important than extra GPU grunt...so the 6970 would be a better choice. But I still think 6970 2GB is quite poor value considering the price point...it would probably be better to just get a 6950 2GB and save around £80, considering the 6970 is only a mere 3% faster than the 6950 on average when both cards are on the same clock speed.

True this, get a good clocking 6950 and you're laughing.

Ultimately, with all 3 cards overclocked the GTX570 will be a bit faster because it has signifciantly more overclocking headroom than the 6970. Most people can achieve an easy 100MHz on the GTX570, but 30-40MHz is all that 6970's provide without resulting to voltage tweaks. The 6970 is only the better card if you intend to use 3 monitors or game at very high resolutions where the additional 768MB frame buffer may help.

*At stock speeds the 570 and 6970 are equal - just buy the cheapest.
*With all 3 overclocked the 570 will be 5-10% faster - get the 570 if overclocking is your thing.
*For 3 monitors or 2500x1600 gaming get the 6970.
*For budget saviness get a 6950 and overclock it to 6970 speeds.

Just my opinion, based upon owning GTX570's, GTX480's and 6950's. They are all good cards and you cannot go wrong either.
