I would love to see the breakdown of this '450' pounds a week

income support is only payable to 1 person in the relationship, child benefit only 30 ish quid a week

hb benefit will be payable..but you dont see the cash as it goes to the landlord..and yes you might not be paying it, but your income has also reduced by not working so you see no net gain in reality

so how is 450 quid income pre week actually broken down?

Its not, he was trolling, he doesnt have a baby on the way and he works.

And back in the real world.....

i've done perfectly fine with the part time jobs i've done (team leader), and the degree, PhD and 8 years working in my chosen industry sector are taking care of my family fine, thanks. Its n=1, but proof enough for me.

Good look trying to stay on benefits, the job centre will send you for every job interview they can to get you back to work.

They stopped my benefits because I, in their words "failed to apply for a recommended job" what they neglected to research is I applied & was interviewed for a job that I was more suited to at the same company, needless to say, they stopped my benefits from may till August, thankfully I got a job in July so I was able to tell them to shove it up their arse.

We're probably all be better off on benefits if we could claim the 30k a year some people are getting. I couldn't have survived if I didn't live at home.

The nail in the coffin was, they still expected me to sign on every week, even though I wasn't being paid.

They also expected me to live off my savings despite me saying that money was to buy a house in the future. Basically, because I had
More than £40 in my bank I couldn't even claim hardship.

The job centre is a crazy place, they only help you get mundane-no-future jobs, they only care about statistics and won't help you unless you got kids or are on drugs. If you got a degree or any potential, you're screwed.

Rant over.

For reference, I do 48 hours a week and take home 1.2k after tax (per month) Thats £6.29 an hour!

Welcome to mundane boring days of watching Jeremy Kyle and wondering what to do next!

Oh and the Jobcentre harrassing you every five seconds and then throwing you onto Action 4 Employment where you will be mingling with likewise people who cba, rob, do drugs and are generally unpleasant.

you cant blame people for taking advantage of the system

you have to blame the system

Every system has it flaws and granted its made easy to abuse but this just read like the guy has no pride at all and was almost showing off about the fact he will be on £400 a week for doing nothing. You can blame people for abusing the system and to be honest I do blame people...

how about for once we blame the people with no pride.

if everybody used the system for what it was there for then there would be no need to call it broken.

So I can't blame thieves for stealing someone's bag that they left in a vulnerable place in a pub?

Yes, the owner of the bag should have been more careful, but that does not exonerate the thief of their crime.

How is that even a fair comparison? If the OP is genuinely entitled to the benefits - how is he stealing?

As others have said, fix the flawed system - don't go after the people that claim because the system allows them to.

At the end of the day if they are the type of people who want to sit on their backsides and live off hand outs then so be it, not something I could ever do.

Taxes pay for a lot of things not just these lazy benefit scummers. Don't let sensational tabloid papers tell you otherwise, its not a "good life".
