Who is your favourite scientist of all time?

Sagan was probably the best supporter of Science. But Scientist as a whole? Damn, that's tricky. Between Hawking, Einstein, Newton, Galileo, Tesla, Darwin, Asimov, Tsiolkovsky, Korolyev, Hohmann and hundreds of others i'm forgetting or can't be bothered to list it would be near impossible for me to choose.

Hawking has done a lot for bringing very difficult theoretical physics and cosmology ideas into the realms of popular science. For that alone I could see why people would consider him their favourite scientist. Not to mention his scientific career, battle with motor neurone disease, and ability to get with decent women.

Yep sums it up - minor accomplishments, heaps of sympathy and is the most overrated physicist ever.
 
Sir Frederick Banting, to tell you the truth I don't really know that much about any of them. I just picked him because I'm a type I diabetic and though he might not be as well known as some of the ones posted so far.

And was also aware of and saw first hand the thousands of people (many of which were Jews) who suffered and died while manufacturing his V2 rockets in what were essentially forced labour camps, and was perfectly fine with it. The man shouldn't be anyone's favourite.
 
Henry Cavendish. Discovered so much about electricity and established things that we know about nowadays such as Ohm's Law, electric potential, Dalton's Law and more. None of them are named after him, however, as he didn't tell anyone about them - his discoveries were only unearthed nearly 100 years later.
