The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

The freeze and Time Stop shouts are great, the others are meh. Fus becomes epic when fully upgraded to fus ro dah though :)

My installation had loads of graphical glitches on some faces due to installing too many face mods, so I ended up playing other stuff instead as I cant be asked reinstalling it.

*Note to self. Always back up game installation before modding.

Just delete the ..\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\textures\actors\character folder.

To be honest as far as faces go the non-blocky faces mod is enough. Everything else has minor issues.

As for the guilds, there needs to be tighter restrictions on joining. You should not be able to become an archmage of the mages guild unless you play a full on mage. Barbarians wearing -mana cost robes isn't really Archmage material. The same goes for cloth wearing pansies joining the Companions.

In many respects this game is amazing but the more you play the more you realize a lot of the design just isn't tight enough in the right areas.

If you haven't tried, just get some armor and a shield and fight various mobs in the game. Their animations and AI are pretty poor. Normally you just kill stuff and breeze past it, but if you take a good look at what's going on it can be quite a disappointment. Man vs. Sabre Cat is particularly funny as the Cat randomly faces the wrong direction and is unable to hit you if you run in a circle.

1.3 patch seems to have broken Jorrvaskr in Whiterun. When I exit the Jorrvaskr building it's an instant crash to desktop.. tried multiple times now. Had to reload a previous save and avoid the building totally now until they fix it :/

Couldn't agree more with the whole Guilds only allowing sutable candidates in. However there is nothing stopping you from showing some restraint and not joing every Guild with your character. Although a less strict version of how Morrowind handled this very issue would be a bonus. IIRC you had to be a certain level in certain skills to be able to get promoted in the guild and get more quests.

For sure you can do that but I don't think it's the correct solution. On the same theme it is also really annoying that you don't have character specific saves/save folders.

Bethesda really should add a character select screen and allow separate save games. It would be beneficial to replay value and allow players freedom to experiment without the weight of feeling forced to create a super toon that can do everything.

I just bought Skyrim

So, just how much of my life will I lose !

Only just skimmed the surface and so far loving it.

Will be a while before I come across many of the issues mentioned in the thread but hopefully patches/mods will have them sorted by then.

If you have a family, you really need the Time on Loading Screen mod. It is very easy to think you've been playing for 30 minutes when it has in fact been 3 hours.

Going through the main quest you get some brilliant shouts I will spoiler them in case no onw wants to know them;)
Dragonrend- Forces Dragons to land
Call Dragon- summon a dragon to land
Call of Valour- summons a strong 'hero' who you meet in the main quest

Also i think Elemental fury is great, as is Aura whisper and disarm(which is great against dragon priests

Just slightly disappointed with the guild quests, they are still very good but in Oblivion they were highlights, the Thieves Guild questline is great

Hopefully this should work. Though I've had too many other new games to play recently - Magic the Gathering, Shogun 2, Bastion, and I still havnt touched Orcs must die or Trine 2 yet.

ATM I'm hopelessly addicted to Call to Power 2 again, and also craving to play Anno 1404 too ..... Why does this junk have to be my aphrodisiac :(

Does dual wielding improve much throughout the course of the game and does dual wielding daggers increase the ambush damage at all?

Started a thief type character(dual wield+bow) and while the backstab damage is impressive if i manage to pull a sneak off, dual wielding seems pretty underwhelming. My first character used sword and shield and he always had the ability to hold his own, especially after I levelled the restoration tree. The small damage increase from dual wielding doesnt seem to be worth losing the extra defense, interrupts and partial magic resist. The power attacks also seem to leave you very open to attack when performing them and I find that not all of the hits connect.

I did start this playthrough on maximum difficulty but the damage i'm outputting is really quite pathetic, when I always invest heavily in smithing, I actually get 1 shotted by power attacks from some enemies :p

How does helping one faction affect the gameplay? I seem to me facing lots of tough decisions atm and it's hindering my gameplay as I'm so indecisive. I hate the stormcloaks but kind of like what they stand for, whereas I'm the opposite with the Imperial.

Also, say I chose to do the thieves guild quest and join them, will that make anyone or any group hostile towards me?

I used to be an adventurer like you, but then someone stole my sweet roll and fur grew out of my ears.

bump. Can anyone advise me on this?

well i'm playing a spellcaster/dual wielder running around with 2x conjured swords wearing heavy armor and i can take/throw out quite a lot of dmg. only spells i really use are the conjure swords then i just run in and start power attacking with them, their hp disappears quite nicely, and this leaves all my mana for heals. most unorthodox thing i've ever played, quite fun

Doing guild quests will not make anyone hostile to you. I have done the Mages, Thieves and am half way through the Dark Brotherhood, you can do them all

I have only done one of the civil war quests and sided with the Legion and it hasn't made any difference so far, i can still talk to the Stormcloaks and am welcome everywhere

Awesome. Like said earlier, it's not exactly very immersive being able to do all the quests, but I don't like missing out. I've done the Mage quest, and I've just got to Riften. I'm going to do all the side quests from there then speak to the sewer rats :D

I do agree in a way, but i think you should be able to do all of the quests but you shouldn't necessarily become the leader of every faction, it just gets silly. I did about 4 quests for the Mages and I am Arch-Mage above the obviously better candidate, same with the Thieves Guild, i have no idea why they make you the leader!

I think the Mages quest line is just the exception, all the other factions have been pretty good. But yes it did seem like it had been cut short?!

TBH i was sort of glad as magic is far from my strong point.
