car been written off... twice?!

Because he's told you it was HPI clear when it's been written off twice?

Look at the advert again. Non standard front lights yet completely stock, base alloy wheels. So he's not a modder as the first thing anyone who cares even slightly about that would do is bin the awful tiny wheels. So why has it had new lights? Well, because aftermarket lights are cheaper than BMW lights I guess, so a suggestion it was repaired after at least one of its accidents on the cheap.

Then look at the service book. A 2006/06 plate car not serviced for the first time until 2010? Yes the BMW servicing is variable and its a low mileage car but come on, 4 years? It says in the handbook to get the oil changed every 2 years if you cover under 6k a year.

Just why bother? Everything about this car has flashing red lights IMHO.

The next cheapest white (I assumed when you first posted it was a prefacelift which they didnt do in white) 2.0 Z4 is a year newer but has 3 times the mileage but costs... £14,000.

What does this tell you about one thats £6000?

ah i thought HPI was just about finance?

I hadnt noticed anythign at all about the lights!

Im not really a car person, hence i thought id ask on here for help.

Thanks :D

Find another one Natwee, there are plenty of 2L Z4 for £6k.

Actually there are hardly any at all because it wasn't a launch engine therefore you need a newer car to get one. I count two on Autotrader excluding this one.

Plenty of 2.2's, though. Better engine anyway IMHO.

Sorry, I meant 2.2 :p

I hate to say it but Fox you are awesome :)

Note that the 2.2, 2.5 and 3.0 are all M54 6 cylinder engines and therefore all have the same running costs and same fuel economy. This typically means we suggest that the lower capacity engines are pointless but I feel this differs in this sort of purchase because:

a) You admit you don't particularly want a fast car and the Z4 being pretty light and the 2.2 developing 170bhp anyway means it's hardly a slug

b) Your budget is low for a Z4 so anything you can do to increase the quality of cars you can afford is good. The 3.0 is the best - more people want it. Cheap 3.0's are dogs. Cheap 2.2's are cheap because it's a 2.2 and everyone wants a 3.0.

^ so in theory, if you don't care about the 3.0L side of things, you can get a nice 2.2L cheap?

As you said, its hardly a slug either.

Correct and to a lesser extent the 2.5 as well. There are spec differences though, no sport suspension for example unless its a 3.0 (though this is a good thing as its awful).

thanks for this! :)

6k isnt the budget... we could spend more on one, just this one was lots cheaper and i guess i hoped we could get it and there be nothing wrong with it :)

Crikey, the arse really has fallen out of these.

That looks like a really nice car for under £7K.

just spoke to the bf and apparently when i asked him about the HPI stuff, HE was saying it looked clear, not the seller (not sure if that makes a difference?) here is the report:

On what planet is that clear?

It clearly states in bright red text that its been recorded as a total loss.

If your boyfriend thinks that tells him the car is clear then don't let him go near any more used cars!

he assumed the post saying to ask about HPI was asking about outstanding finance... which is clear.

HPI is more than just finances, that just means there is no creditors attached to the car.

The car itself however is a nail, don't buy it.
