Overclockers forum on App

I can't say I've had any problems with large images causing broken layouts on my phone, they just fit to the screen...

Nor do I have problems with reaching the end of a text box.

Sounds like the iOS browser is more shoddy than I remember it being if it can't even manage basic web browsing functions like that these days.

edit - and I even made this post on my phone whilst trying to break the text box after having looked at a thread with some large images in it... no problems

I have a tablet, I use dolphin browser. The only annoying thing about it is the size of the page numbers, which are annoying to click. Other than that it's fine with a web browser.

People that post large images for starters resizes the whole page, an app would thumbnail them. If you type a lot in the reply box and you go past the end of the text box you can't scroll.. to name a few issues.

a) you resize by pinching
B) you use two fingers to scroll text boxs. Same on iPhones.

So learn to use device. Be nice if pics were limited to 800x600 that size seems to work nicely on all things be it phones, tablets or net books.

He does have a point though, my Nokia lumia 800 has no text wrapping (most of the new browsers don't) and It becomes difficult to see text, why is it a decision beyond mods?

Sorry, what? WP does text wrap, at the very least on forums.

get a phone with a bigger screen.

Won't make a difference, higher resolution might however.

TBH I've never seen the point if you have a decent resolution phone screen, the reason these threads were always started by iPhone users in the past was because they had **** poor screen resolutions, the new iPhones and most other smartphones don't so no need...

A) yeah but you have to zoom in to read the resized text then zoom back out when you get to the massive pics. Agree that it could be fixed by having the forum auto resize to a certain size with full size on click.

B) yeah okay didn't know that. If only apple supplied a manual that was more than 4 bullet points :D

On my phone HTC, I can pinch open/close to reside, but also double tap and it automatically sizes the post to a readable size. Is that not the norm?

I'm browsing the forums on my GS2 right now and have no problems at all, don't even need to pinch to zoom - just double tap and it zooms/fits to the element you tapped.

An app would just worsen the experience imo.

nope, ie9 on my device if you want the text to fit the screen, you have to double tap but the text is small and its difficult to see, so I have to zoom in and pan left to right with my finger, and there's no opera on wp7 which has text wrapping which I used to have on the N8

"Apps" that duplicate functionality that already exists on the web are completely pointless.

This article completely describes most people's feelings for these crummy "apps": http://www.hanselman.com/blog/AppsAreTooMuchLike1990sCDROMsAndNotEnoughLikeTheWeb.aspx

A thesis of at least 40,000 words exists in this single image.

Really good article, hadn't read anything on that before and it really shows you how history repeats! CD/early modem bandwidth comparison was particularly spot on.

.

I tend to agree, apps are needed, but will start to die out again. All be ause websites weren't designed with small screens and touch screens in mind. More and more are being designed with them in mind and. The official death of flash, will only speed up this process.
