All Microphones Suddenly Gone Really Quiet

Hey guys,

Two days ago I could record with my microphone perfectly fine. It would be loud and clear, as you would expect.

Yesterday I turned on my PC, started recording and it would barely pick my voice up. I'd have to be right next to the microphone and speak pretty loud for it to be at an acceptable level.

I have three microphones, my headset (Creative Fatality Gaming Headset), my webcam mic (Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910) and my new Christmas present – Blue Snowball microphone.

The same problem occurs on each microphone and I have no idea why.

I've tried googling the problem and people are blaming Windows 7, anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Thanks for your time and any help is appreciated,

Hatton

Loose connection?

Reseat soundcard or reseat the FPCs

I've made sure it is connected properly. It is screwed in to position firmly.

I have also uninstalled Skype just to make sure it isn't affecting anything.

I still have the same problem when recording.

Hmm. If you are getting this problem with a microphone connected to the sound card, and also with a USB microphones, then if un-installing Skype does not fix the issue, then surely Windows 7 must be the problem.

Maybe an update has screwed something up.

I have been having trouble with my updates recently.

I get an error message when I try to install an update. Can't think what is stopping it from updating though.

Error message:

"WindowsUpdate_8024200D" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

is there an option to boost mic's? Skype has the "ability" to change the sound settings (in options somwhere) and after you uninstall it it doesn't reset them. Go into mixer settings and try resetting them/tweaking them, I bet it's in there your problems lie

I fixed the problem with one of my microphones, my headset. I just reinstalled the drivers for my soundcard.

My new BLUE Snowball microphone is still stupidly quiet and I have to be right next to it for it to pick up anything.

Do you guys reckon it is faulty?

I would doubt it. It could be, be it's quite a co-incidence for it to go wrong at the same time all your microphones decide to go quiet.

Have you looked into the microphone setting, suggested by 3dcandy? Just in case Skype messed up the mic recording levels.
