under £14k BMW 335i SE ?

Stock 3 series don't come with privacy glass. It's an option you pay to have. If it has privacy glass, it's not stock, someone has paid to add it, it's an option.

And, having used both extensively, CCC is woeful and looks very very old compared to CIC, hence, if I keep the E60 for another year or 18 months, I'll be retrofitting CIC to it.

Jesus, I've been thinking stock refers to factory car, IE that's how it left the factory..

It does, stock means, straight from the catalogue, no options. This has tints (if they are BMW ones), then they were added as an option, so the car is no longer stock.

So, the car better not break down the first month of ownership then? :p

And how do they check it qualifies for the warranty if you buy it on the website? Does a BMW engineer comes to your house to check or do I have to take it to a dealer for an inspection?

Ah, I've been thinking, stock refers to as it left the factory, aka when the owner has had it, it hasn't been modified, therefore the car is stock.

From wikipedia

"A stock car, in the original sense of the term, described an automobile that has not been modified from its original factory configuration."

Lol.

Stock does not = a base car.

Tints are a modification, so it's not stock. Almost any manufacturer option could be classed as a modification, larger wheels, lip spoiler, etc, etc.

No 3 series came with tints as part of the original factory configuration, so it can't be stock if it has tints!

If you buy a 320i withouth options, it's stock. If you buy a 335i withouth options, it's stock, they are both "Base" cars

No because once you add all the options you are left with your car, that is its original factory configuration. That is a stock car.

When I get home and change the bumper to an M3 one does it not become stock car. AKA original factory configuration.

Stock does not mean you have the base car at the factory, and then they add some tints and the factory and now it's no longer stock. Everything in the factory is considered stock, it's when modifcations happen after leaving the factory that it does not become stock.

No, an original factory car is, a 3 series, made available for sale, with no options. If you add options, it becomes, for want of a better term, an optional factory configuration, which is not stock.

If I spent near on £10k on options on a car (which is fairly easy in the higher range of BMWs), it would never, ever be called "stock". Just because those options are fitted at the factory doesn't mean it remains stock.

BMW even have an "individual" program which highlights this further.
