Any electricians in the house?

For some bizarre reason other than we might have extra paranormal activity, the light bulbs in our house have been blowing at an excessive rate. Even bulbs that I don't think I've ever changed. I'm not talking about 2 or 3, I've had at least 8 go since Christmas have gone. It's costing me fortune and I've got the whole downstairs landing out now. What more alarming, our bathroom spot-lights have been blowing taking out the transformers too.

I am going to call in an electrician but is there anything really he can do? Or for the benefit of my curiosity before hand, what might be the problem and is there anything i can do otherwise?

Thanks

Is this a new build or an older house, does it require re-wiring? It might be an earth in contact with a live, does it happen everytime you switch certain light(s) on? We had something similiar previously but it was an old house using the rubber sheathing, some had perished and the wiring came in contact with the next.

It's a fairly old house (1968). Most of it has bee rewired over the years. The problem occurs on different circuits behind the RCD. The neighbours are going to catch me one night indecently running to the switch!

are the replacement bulbs blowing or is it just the old ones?

Both old and new.. The only ones that haven't are the LEDs in my kitchen which I fitted becuase they are very low voltage but they give off poor light. The ones prior to tht would nearly go within a few days. As i said, it's all over :(

Sounds to much to be coincidence. Sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere now. Problem is, a sparky is going to light up, literally, and push for new wiring and a new consumer unit to fully erradicate the issue

Not been a recent thing but getting worse gradually. Have called a sparky so will post back what he says. My guess is not much. I guess I was hoping that there would be some kind of device that irons out the AC at source..
