dodgy neighbours preparing for crime..

Oh sure because comfronting a criminal in his own home is one of your best ideas yet.

What if he is mentally unstable? What if he attacks you or pulls a weapon?

Phone the damn police and stop being an idiot.

Ive known him for 2 years. He wont attack me and deep down hes a good guy, lost his way or fallen of the track.

Well it's incredibly Christian of you... however, that doesn't change the fact he is breaking the law. I know you're trying to do the right thing, and it's absolutely laudable... but really this is not something that should be ignored. What if his activities are even more nefarious than you realise??

I love how black and white these situations are to everyone. If you found out your Mum had nicked a tank of petrol, would you call the police? Assuming the majority of you are normal and would not try to have your own mother sent down - there is a line between your dear old mum and a "good guy" neighbour of 2 years - Everyone has to draw the line somewhere, why should the OP draw it here?

And before I get a load of grief, I'm not saying I wouldn't have shopped the guy, I would have. I'm just saying that its unfair to judge the OP by your own moral standards - unless you really would turn in your own mum...

The amount of times you hear on the news "but he seemed like such a nice guy" to find out that someone has been stealing/murdering etc etc.

You might have known him for a while but clearly if his actions today are new to you then to be honest you dont known him at all and just sounds like he is using you the way he used his fake plates..... to get something he needs the easiest way.

Report it as something you have seen nothing might come of it but if thats the case you did the right thing and can sleep easy knowing that.

Really, you're using a mother as an example.

lol.

OP is a top class **** for not reporting this. Pretty stupid thinking that just because you live across the road from him" You know him" enough to know that he won't beat you senseless.

If somebody was to burgle your house, bring harm upon your partner/child/wife or w.e, would you be sympathetic because he has a new born son?

Crime is crime and should not be sorted by the likes of you "having a word mate" .

So the OP goes and has a word... a neighbour witnesses the same incident and reports it to police... gangster gets in trouble and then sends his homies round to beat up OP as they assume he was the one who saw it. Smart.

well thought it could be layered troll at first was hoping to see skills then seen it was just the usual nerd troll . 2/10 for effort.

Decent people can make a bad system work, a decent system cannot make bad people decent.

We will never have people who won't attempt to exploit things, so the system needs to be minimally exploitable.

So both a better system and better people are needed.
