games with terrible endings?

What about Half Life 1?

Some ridiculous offer of a job from the G-Man after fighting a giant blobby thing on Xen?

I can't believe this is even up for debate.

Sonic the Hedgehog - You make a fat guys hovering ship crash and a bunch of animals dance around....... great!

Dont agree with those mentioning RDR, thought the ending was really good.

There was one game I played semi recently that I hadnt even realised I had finished it, just cant remember which one it was ;)

Halo 2 has the worst ending of any game I've played.
It's literally a totally unexpected sudden black screen halfway through a conversation in a cutscene. You have to see it to believe it.

Worst one recently that gave me a WTF? moment was Rage. And not because of any cutscene or crappy last mission but because it doesn't let you go back into the world after you've finished the main quest line.

Shame, as games like Dead Island or the inFamous games let you do that.

Metro 2033. Not just the end movie(s) but the last level itself, cant explain why without spoilers but it's just not epic enough.

Yeah, just finished it and that 'maze' type stuff was mighty strange and i'd rather have fought something like a 50ft librarian (although I was well out of ammo by then, so maybe not). Not a 'bad' ending as such though.

RAGE - I assumed I was around a quarter way through the game when.......it finished :(

Jet Set Willy was a bit of a disappointment given how long it took to get through it, even with pokes.

WHile many people didn't enjoy the Xen levels, I felt it was an approproate ending in terms of wrapping up the story. IT was evident during your playthrough that there was some kind of greater force on the other side of the portals, pulling the strings. The "giant blobby thing" was actually an alien overlord of immense intelligence and power. The only reason that Freeman was able to defeat it was because it had been weakened during an earlier war with the combine. The Nihilanth was also what had enslaved the vortiguants, which explains why they worship "The Freeman" so devoutly in HL2.

There really is a lot of backstory in the HL series that intertwines so well, if you take the time to study it.

Nothing, and I mean nothing in this world with ever beat Rambo on the Commodore C64 back in the early days of gaming.

It quite literally took longer to load from tape then it did to complete the game from start to finish. It was a top scrolling game where all you did was fight some baddies and the hop into a helicopter and game over. 5 mins playing, over an hour loading from tape…

MOHAA had a rather naff ending I felt, it just suddenly ended..??

And, as much as I loved ME2, the ending was rubbish comparable to the rest of the game. It built up well, you assembled your team and the final mission was fine, until you, well not want to ruin it for anyone but I was left thinking – well that was rather pointless in a way…

having just completed stalker shadow of Chernobyl i'd like to nominate it for the worst ending of any video game.

for those of you who dont want to read the ending, ive hidden it for you :)

As has been said, you haven't had the proper ending to Stalker
