BMW M3 CSL

I was under the impression the impression the GTS was the CSL's replacement?!

they kind of are.

They are in the same spirit as the CSL, but they were named differently for a reason.

The CSL was an attempt at producing a proper limited run "special" version, that people would actually buy and use rather than a halo car that nobody could afford or justify the price tag of.

They built 1400 CSLs apparently, vs 250 E92 M3 GTS. afaik all 250 sold pretty quickly, but a lot of those will be in the hands of collectors sat under a wrap in storage somewhere.

He sells good quality cars. A friend of mine bought an RS4 from him a few years ago. His prices arent too bad either for the quality of cars he sells.

Agreed, I've read positive comments about him elsewhere in the past.

The one owner 04 plate e46 for £10k looks a good buy for somebody. :)

How much are they per year on a sub 60k car?

Maybe foolish but I ran mine with no warranty and tracked it and had zero issues.

Serious question but is there much to break on the CSL apart from the usual rear springs and RTAB issues which are not that expensive or easily remedied by uprated parts.

Engines and gearbox to me knowledge are bullit proof, only minor clutch issues which warranty won't generally cover and if your into drifting then they eat differentials which is about a 3-4k bill a time fitted at BMW I think.

Apart from that I think they are generally very reliable however at £1200 per year for a as new warranty is worth it.

Generally yeah I agree, but a mate did run his with the extended (full) warranty and had not only diffs but full engine and gearbox about two days before it was sold for a 1M. Dread to think what that would have cost.

The engine was a head gasket failure which took out the head/block.

The gearbox was missing gears (selection, not physically missing haha).

I think I'd stick to a BMW warranteeed car given the choice :)

I ran mine with full BMW warranty. Never had any major claims (diff probably biggest. For some reason...)
That was over 7 years so about 4 (from memory) with the extended warranty.

Thread revivial for a question: if you bought a Cat D CSL for the right price, would it still hold its value as well as a non recorded CSL?
Was going to go look at one that I found that seemed good value until he told me it was a Cat D, but he forgot to put it on the advert. Put me off but got me thinking.

I'd have to say no, the CSL is only bought buy car enthusiasts who REALLY want a CSL, they'll only buy the best examples, which wouldn't be a CAT D.

When I was looking to buy an E46 M3 earlier this year, I looked in to the cost of an OEM CSL airbox to replicate the CSL sound...

This is coming from someone who spent £700 on a Carbon Fibre Gruppe M for a Civic Type-R at one point in my life too.

Love the CSL though, definitely a future classic.

I see your point; what if it was stolen recovered with minimal or no damage, with full paperwork to prove it?
It doesnt take too much to write off a CSL that's valued at £25k.

"Forgot" - makes me very worried......

that one looked WAY to good to be true at that mileage.

If you want one thats had some goodies added then I also noticed my old car has come up for sale, but slightly modified!

I am a bit tempted.

Did you have the schrick cams in there when you owned it?

I think I'd only want one thats had an exhaust and AP's at the most, but thats a bargain for what you're getting.
