Am after getting some headphones as live in a flat and will allow me to watch stuff late at night.

I have £200 to spend and looking for the best set I can get for blueray movies and some gaming.

Is it worth buy a separate amp or can I use my AV receiver?

I want closed headphones that keeps the sound out from the outside world

Thanks ! :)

i'm a senn lover myself .. but op asked for closed back and most of senns are open design .......

Guys how much are headphone amplifiers? I see some for like £20 around the web. Is it worth buying something more money?

I understand the higher the OHMS the more power it needs. the cans I wanted are 250 OHMS will my AV receiver do that ok or am I in the AMP relm?

What cans are you looking at?

Depends on your AV receiver.

I am currently looking at MixAmp and DT 770s (80s). Would bring your budget over by £30~ though.

I have the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s and they have been absolutely beautiful for me so far. Many ppl complain about the lack of bass with these cans, but I am not a bass-head so couldn't care less.

Magnificent Sound Stage, lots of detail, and lovely performance.

When you say mixamp is that a astro mixamp ?

There just seems to be so many different amps when searching unsure which one I would need.

Would I connect it to zone2 on my receiver of the headphone jack?

I have a denon 1910, doesnt give any special specs regards it headphone jack

Considering the DT770`s my self :) - might just copy you lol

He means the astro mixamp, the only problem is the avr 1910 does not have an optical out, which the mixamp needs as a source.

The mixamp is a wired or wireless headphone amp for simulating surround sound with Dolby headphone. If you were using this with multiple devices, you would need to either manually change source each time or get a cheap optical switch

Not sure on how your receiver would work. It may amplify the sound. As below though I'm getting the Astro Mixamp to use Dolby Headphone for PC and the 360.

Its either the DT770s or the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s I shall be going for. Depending on the cash flow after getting a new TV :)

Nobody's suggested Denon D2000s, I'm surprised. Easily driven, and easily the best headphones for movies south of a lot more than £200. Awesome, awesome bass and have a very open sound for what are nominally closed-back headphones. Note that they don't isolate as well as Beyers. Good with most music too (the vest I've had for hip hop, electronica, drum and bass etc).

They are supremely comfortable - in fact they're the most comfortable heaphones I've ever owned, and despite owning what many people regard as 'better' headphones, I favour these as they're so much fun to listen to, whilst retaining great sound quality. Go over to headfi and have a read about them. Seriously, they're brilliant. That's comparing them with AKG K701s, Sennheiser HD 555s, HD 580s, HD 600s, HD 650s, Beyer DT880 Premiums and several others I can't remember.

IMO, yes. The Denons are in a different league. If you like bass, you'd love the Denons. They have spades of it, and it's not all 'woomf woomf woomf' like cheaper headphones. This makes them brilliant for movies, and bass-driven music.

If you have a large HMV nearby, it might be worth checking them out, as they sometimes have headphones out for demo. My 'local' one has loads out on demo, including D2000s.

They LOOK awesome. But there over £100 more expensive than the DT770 and 150 more than the ATH-AD700s.
