Got blocked into car park, tried reversing out in darkness and reversed into a contractors fiesta.

Im raging because theres no damage to my pos saxo, yet this new(ish) fiesta looks like its been written off (exaggeration). Less than 2mph, not a single scratch on my car yet theres bits missing and all sorts off the other party.

So dejected because i've never had an accident before, been driving 5 years AND MY CARS BLOODY FINE!

Left a note of course, really hope I dont get raped for cash over this....

You crashed into him, you don't get to dictate the terms of his repair.

Understand completely, however I am hoping she would at least speak to me first and if she does i'll offer to fix it myself, if it still isnt good enough ill pay to have it done by a third party (hopefully a local professional of my choice).

You'll offer to fix it yourself? I don't think anyone in their right mind would allow someone who crashed into them to fix their car....

consider this thread closed, its worse than general discussion for people being less than helpful. If I said I'd rather fix your car to a level you were more than happy (pay for it to be done myself at a garage I know and trust) with or make you sit out an insurance claim.
I know what I would rather.

Just because people don't tell you what you want to hear doesn't mean they are being 'less than helpful'.

If you've caused significant damage to a nearly new car, you don't have an awful lot of say in how its repaired and it'll almost certainly go through insurance. Most people prefer to allow the insurers to deal with non-fault incidents like this because in 90% of cases once the bill/quote arrives the person who caused the damage backs away and it ends up going through the insurers anyway.

Presumably you wont be offering to hire her a Fiesta whilst hers is fixed, either, which the insurers would also cover.

its not a non-fault incident for a start (re-reads OP) nearly new is 08 which is new to me driving a 1998 car and as for hiring a car, for the day it would cost me would probably be less than my premium increase? Unless im mistaken about how insurance works id be left paying much more in the long run?

Thats still not her fault though, so its a non fault claim to her which is why she would go through insurance.

You hit her car = your fault.

She doesn't have to let you repair her car and as people have said, I wouldn't let the person that hit my car near it again.

Its not about what you want to do in this case. Its about what contractor wants to do.

As others have said, not your choice what she does.
If someone damaged my car there's no way I would let them fix it themselves. I would want the work done properly with documentation and warranties.

You hit the fiesta, your fault, they have every right to go through insurance, its what its there for & why they pay it no doubt.

Unlucky, but **** happens.

Put it this way, if I were the fiesta I would expect it to be repaired properly & not by whoever did the damage - how do I know what standard the repair would be etc etc?

I'm sorry if this is unhelpful - i.e. not what you want to hear.
A harsh lesson, next time, get out & look perhaps.

To be honest the best reply, mainly paintwork damage so you can tell the level to which its repaired via visual means, no mechanical damage by the looks of it. Getting out and looking doesnt usually work while you're trying to drive at the same time

Ha ha, very funny. I mean get out & check before reversing into a fiesta for example!

Its the sort of thing I have to do daily in my artic to avoid causing similar (if not a lot worse) damage. :)
