Ford Fiesta ST unveiled

I will side with James May and predict that it'll be stupidly stiff and rubbish on lots of UK roads, given its Nurburgring credentials and stupid rubber band tyres...

One of these, plus a Mountune Performance 200bhp upgrade for £900-1000 would be epic.

like every hot hatch out there?

Not a big fan of the front end, and the back would look better with the exhausts in the middle. I just hope it's a joy to drive.

I'd much rather a hot hatch weighed a ton and had 150-200bhp than weighing almost 1500kg and 300bhp.

Infact just had a riot driving my mates Puma 1.7 around the moors tonight, more fun than my Xsara VTS I reckon with a third more power.

exactly, things that have miles more power than me cant get away from me unless its on a motorway... and even then they wont be disappearing into the distance.

Indeed... And a shame it is too. I've driven only a few cars of the modern "very stiff, low profile tyres" mould - and I've hated every one. They crash over bumps and tramline all over the road on anything except a smooth surface.

My old 106 GTi was perfect in my eyes, before I put the Blisteins on it.

Really, I thought Bilsteins improved my VTS no end. Still compliant enough to not be crashy but drastically improved turn in and reduced bodyroll.

I think people are too obsessed with headline figures, I wonder how many 172/182 owners on here could lose someone in a Fiesta ST. Controversial I know.

Thats odd, Blisteins improved the ride by miles in the FiestaST, and it doesnt tram line everywhere either.

Like everyone ive raced against :D (Track obviously). Also, most sub 250bhp FocusST's and BMW's...

I bought it pre-lowered on original dampers and cheap springs. When the dampers gave out, I deliberated at length on going back to OEM dampers/springs, or going down the Bilstein/H&R route - which I did.

It was never crashy after that, don't get me wrong, and around Milton Keynes especially it was fantastic - like you say, great turn in and virtually no bodyroll at all.

Unfortunately, a good portion of my driving was done on country roads - and i had to slow down everywhere that had a less than perfect surface, it was just too stiff, even with "proper" tyres.

17.5K seems a lot. Looks very similar to te concept which is a good thing.

I don't want to get wrapped up in BHP but 180 seems abit low considering the Ibiza Cupra had 180BHP back in 09, with most rivals putting out 200BHP+

Either way it will no doubt be a sweet handling car and the fiesta will now have the power it really needed. I don't expect many to stay at the standard 180bhp eiher

its spaced in with Fords range though, if it was too fast it would make the Focus ST a pointless buy. Also, the Focus ST has less BHP than the Astra VXR but which car sold many many more than the other... Yes the FocusST with 20500 on the road currently vs roughly 7000 Astra's. BHP didnt help sell that did it.

Edit: Same could be said for the FiestaST vs the 172/182. 15000 cars vs 7300, or 10600 if you include the 197. So yes, i think Fords attitude towards its hot hatches, sells more cars...?

This car has potential, the biggest issue is going to be the price as new 17.5k is a lot for a small hatchback. I have the Zetec S and it is a decent, fun car but the lack of power holds it back from really shining in my opinion. 180bhp and that turbo should make it pretty sweet given that it's pretty light. Not to mention remaps and other tuning which will give it 200+ easy.

I'm not sure about the changed looks, the zetec s with street pack looks prettier IMO, but I wouldn't mind retrofitting those seats and lights if possible, especially if Xenons are an option.

I will book a test drive, but only to compare it to my old fiesta st.
Looks a nice car though and I actually really like fords styling here.

I would imagine a mountune stage 1 will see circa 210bhp.
Hopefully, the car will handle well enough and be received well from the off. It's interesting that ford have made the info available now, I anticipated they would hold off until the new clio specs were announced. Brave move?

The only thing that gets me is the price, any potential buyer would no doubt tick a few boxes taking it to 20k or thereabouts.

That's mk2 focus RS money

An 11 plate RS is 27k so it's not really in the same ballpark.

In fact, I take back 20k buying a mk2 RS
By the time this is out, a pov spec fiesta ST will probably be the same price as a sorted RS that may still even have warranty.
