Well, this looks like an absolute beast:

From the sounds of things its design is targeted at the SB-E, but you have to wonder if a motherboard will be happy with this amount of metal hanging off it. Do you think it'll actually be released, or is it just over the top?

Personally, I'll stick to my CM Hyper 212 ;). A few more Alpenfohn coolers are also pictured here:

that looks totally stupid, have you seen the noctura one, because that's even worst, these huge coolers look like blingy junk.

it also looks bloody heavy..... i dont know why these idiots are designing stuff like this.

phwoar! yes please, that things a monster, proper monster, if it comes to market, every other cooling manufacturer are really going to have their work cut out beating it haha :D

I can agree about the triple tower design above, it's a bit gimmicky. Though pretty mild compared to some scythe designs. However, the dual tower coolers such as the noctua, silver arrow, phanteks and alpenfohn k2 represent the top end of air cooling. Due to theyre surface area, theyll dissipate heat much better and with lower speed fans. Compared to standard tower coolers, which can often need very high speed high cfm fans, therefore more noise.

Be interested to see what if any gains this has over the Phanteks/noctua/silver arrow, price point would be another thing.

I agree that it does look over the top, if you read this helios when you test this can you test it with 2, 3 and 4 fans, might not look so hideous with 2 or 3 fans.

When chips are running cooler with every generation I can't help but wonder why coolers just seem to be getting bigger?

Of course I'd be doing that :). I imagine it will be a while before it hits retail like the K2 did but it sure looks promising.

Would be interesting to see if the other end of the heatsink causes any fitment issues with large VRM heatsinks on boards such as ASUS with those shapely Blue finned chunks of alloy.

Looks ridiculous imo. just too big and too many fans.
I would nearly bet that there would hardly be any difference in temps with 2 or 4 fans connected.
and surely 2 wider heatsinks will have as much surface area to cool as 3 thin heatsinks?

My thoughts as well. Bigger heatsink would be more beneficial but saying that, I like how the heat pipes are distributed so that 2 share the same heatsink.

Be interesting to see what type of cases could accomodate the everest. Ive got the k2 in a full tower lian li, and tbh theres not a lot of room between the cooler and the rear of the case.

I guess its the logical progression from 2 towers! Does look very big though, maybe if it was carefully designed and went over the RAM more it would fit in most cases?

Be interesting to see if this is better than 2 tower coolers, which must have similar surface area anyway?

There never is tbh. With the IO plate coming right at the back of the motherboard, looks like you'll have to dispense with the read case fan.
