Hey all.

Looking for a car price range 3-4000 that is going to be going up and down the A1 120 miles round trip commute.

Obviously looking for something reliable and somewhat comfortable but also going to be cheap on fuel.

Cheers :)

Cheap petrol vectra with LPG conversion, budget will get you a tidy facelift example the 1.8 16v that everyone seems to stick the gas on isnt exactly the most impressive powerwise and a cdti 150 would be infinitely faster the petrol wins in terms of reliability and doesnt have the same ability to generate eye watering bills the way the oil burners do

easy enough to replace the word vectra above with mondeo/accord as well

What sort of MPG would I be getting out of a mondeo? Seems some corsas can get 55-60 mpg. I know its a corsa but im gonna be doing 35k odd a year and not looking for grunt more cheaper to run is paramount.

I think people get about 45-50 out of the diesel mondeo. Not bad when you consider the added comfort compared to the corsa

I used to get 60MPG out of mine (2.0 TDCi) on 35 mile motorway runs. I'm doing lots of short journeys now which brings it down to 40-45mpg, or 35 if you drive like a pregnant fish.

I used to get ~40 out of my Mondeo TDCI 130 (Milton Keynes isn't the best for economical driving!) but can easily see 50+ on runs. Now got a Fabia vRS and seeing 42mpg but still having fun - to be honest I don't find it more uncomfortable than the Mondeo, I don't always buy the small car = uncomfortable anymore.
