Hi,

Picked up an MSI 680, but I'm having no luck with the latest drivers, when installing everything appears to be ok.. but upon restarting I get a black screen. I'm able to get into windows fine in safe mode (Currently in safe mode to post this).

I've even formatted and reinstalled windows, and i still get the same issue.

Anyone else having similar issues?

I had a similar issue when i was using dual monitors, for some reason it played up - if the scenario is the same try booting it up with just one plugged in

I have a Zalman 750.

Unfortunately I don't have another PC to try it in.

I'm pretty sure it's a driver issue, because I get no problems without drivers.. the problems start as soon as I install the latest driver, will have to try the older versions that came with the CD.

Failing that i'll try different connection methods, currently using DisplayPort cable.. as I have an 120Hz monitor.

Well, I tried the drivers on the CD, still no change.

So i picked up my old 17" Samsung monitor to see if that worked, it worked first time.

So it must be something to do with the drivers not liking the my Samsung S27A950D. :/
 
Have you tried uninstalling the tri-def software then installing the drivers? i think it's a conflict somewhere though that monitor doesn't support 3D vision but you should be able to still get 120hz on it from the card.I just read a thread with a guy same issue as yours but seemed no one knew the answer neither did Samsung.:(

Or Samsung hardware/driver not liking the GPU :). Sure seems a compatibility issue anyway, probably GP driver related. Think you'll find the initiall driver versions for the card will come pretty swiftly. Have you had a look on the Nvidia website? Maybe they have a 'report a bug' feature.

I've removed all the 3D vision stuff, it doesn't interest me anyway.

Now connected up both monitors, the Samsung 120Hz just isn't being detected. It's picking up a signal, just doesn't know what to do with it.

It's looking like this is an Nvidia issue that THEY will have to fix via driver updates. :/

Not looking good at all.
 
So after looking around I know what the problem is.

For some reason in the latest builds of Nvidia drivers they have been disabling 'DisplayPort' functionality, for what appears to be no reason.

People are fixing this by rolling back to 4/5 month old drivers, which I obviously can't do due to how new my card is.

The easiest way round this would be to just use HDMI, but then I wouldn't get 120Hz until Nvidia fix this issue (If they do), so for now I'm pretty much screwed.

I have no HDMI cable, none came with my monitor only a DisplayPort did, and no cables came with my GPU.

My monitor only has 2 output connections, HDMI and DisplayPort. So i can't try DVI.

I just can't believe Nvidia would do such a stupid thing.

What a mess huh? :p
 
Hmm, sounds like EDID issues to me.

Can you force EDID off from your monitors own menu?


There is lots of noise about people not getting nVidia 3D vision working with it and needing to use workarounds:

But that is just 3D and not the entire display.

Do not think a HDMI cable will help you as you cannot do 120Hz at that resolution over it. DVI-D or DP only afaik?

AMD and Nvidia both seem a bit stupid on the driver front sometimes....

Sorry you can't enjoy your new card - doesn't the monitor have dvi-d?

If so, may be easier finding a cable for that than waiting for Nvidia to fix.

Nope, only 2 connections HDMI and DisplayPort.

I will have to get an HDMI cable over the weekend.
 
Samsung decided to be cool cats and omit DVI from that model.

Pretty stupid seeing as the number of cards sporting multiple DP ports is...well - slim and HDMI not having enough BW for 120Hz at high resolutions.

I am aware of that, but even if it can't do 120Hz, it's still a damn sight better than the 17" 1280x1024 monitor I'm currently using.

I agree, Samsung should have also included some DVI ports as well. But this doesn't make up for the fact that Nvidia claims to have a 'working' DisplayPort on their cards.

Also, what's the best way to contact Nvidia? I don't fancy sending their support an email as it'll never see the light of day.

Btw, this is a confirmed issue with certain Nvidia cards / drivers. There is no away around it other than to use some other connection and patiently wait for a fix to come in the drivers.
