Best screen protectors/case

i

im a bit anal when it come's to my phone's as i always sell them on after a upgrade, who wants a phone which has a badly scratched glass ?

What do you do to badly scratch the glass on your phone? Like I say I've dropped and scraped my milestone a million times, my BB too, and nothing has touched the screen. I honestly don't understand where you'll get a 'one inch scratch' from, unless you deliberately grind it against some big sharp rocks.

Those stories seem completely ridiculous, there's no way that one was caused by a credit card style key, that's just stupid.

Not a fan of screen protectors but using the SGP GLAS on my S2

basically sheet of glass which sits ontop. The only thing worth noting is it requires a custom kernel if you wish to use your phone while charging as it loses some of the responsiveness. Other then that i have nothing but positive reviews for it - has intercepted a few scratches but id rather it did then my phone. No need to worry about bubbles or fine scratches as it is glass and it looks neat. Would defiantly get on another phone if similar guards were released. Win Win in my book:cool:

No worries! I've since realised that the Defy+ lacks a front facing camera and the cut-out to the left of the speaker's is for a sensor.

No probs - knew what you meant. I've had a Martin Fields one on since I got it last October. Looking pretty tatty now and starting to lift on one edge. It does not have the cut out for the sensor.

Interestingly Motorola recommend not using any screen protectors. I've taken the MF screen protector off. Phone display is way better without - due the condition mine was in. As my Defy+ is a 'rebooter' I'll just send it to the recyclers rather than ebay once I'm done with it so going to see how it goes without?

I think a lot of it goes back to the olden days when I for one had an old Nokia. Wasn't a smart phone as such (at all:D) and the screen got scratched to hell after a few months. Modern glass seems to be a lot harder.

Anyone any evidence of scratched gorilla glass in normal use? Mine does have a very fine scratch about 3mm long but very slight. Old screen protector had a small piece of grit embedded in the plastic from a drop.

The fact is, Gorilla glass is strong and scratch resistant, resistant doesn't mean immune. I think a lot of people get confused by this. It's shatter resistant as well, but I've still seen cases where it has shattered from a fairly 'regular' drop. It's just a brand name for toughened glass - nothing more.

It's possible to scratch a screen in 'normal' use if you are unlucky. I don't consider dropping/abusing the phone to be normal use though. :p

Someone made a good post in another thread here saying that using things like keys in scratch tests is a stupid practice because the glass material is stronger than what keys are made of, however, things like grains of sand are stronger than the glass, so that could end up scratching your screen.

Very light scratches are seldom noticeable, and the really deep ones are rare in my experience and usually caused by something quite extreme happening.

Like I said mine has a light scratch on the glass from the first week I had it without the MF protector on. I don't carry keys and such in my left pocket where phone lives. Being in agriculture then dirt and more likely sand and grit (as you say Robbo) that finds its way into pocket can scratch a fine mark?

I also find that carrying a hand full of diamonds in same pocket can also scratch a screen so best put them in your back pocket maybe? :D :D

I had an HTC desire and don't recall if it was Gorilla glass or not? Probably not? I dropped it once onto concrete less than 1 meter fall and completely wrecked screen leaving phone with unresponsive digitizer though the display still did display after a fashion. Defy has dropped maybe a couple of times and have got away with it. All down too luck and angle it hits the ground? Some years ago I had a folding motorola of some sort with a small display on outside of phone. I had it a week and was repairing a tractor reaching awkwardly through cab door. Pocket was resting on door catch on cab frame and the pressure cracked the outer screen. I was gutted as only had it a week. Always wary of doing same again though glass always faces towards my leg in pocket since the aforementioned indecent. No doubt no screen protector cannot protect that sort of scenario? Had Desire in an alu-leather case once repaired which wasn't bad and afforded some protection to screen from aluminum plate in case front flap. Not a right big fan of bulking up a phone with a case as makes it somewhat more awkward to use getting in and out pocket.

Indeed, I'd say things like grit are far more 'dangerous' to your screen than keys. That's probably what caused it.

I feel your pain, my pockets are often full of diamonds so I keep my phone in my hands! :D

The Desire does have Gorilla glass, yes!

To put it in perspective, I've seen someone throw a Samsung Galaxy S II (also with Gorilla glass) across a car park and it didn't have a mark on it, and I've seen instances where people have dropped them from under a metre and the entire screen has shattered. It often comes down to how it lands and perhaps the quality of the glass can vary too.

I also doubt a screen protector would stop the glass shattering as well, I can't see how it would help. For that you'd want a rubbery case (such as the Case Mate tough cases).
