***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Yeah agree with the pentile as with the one S screen, it really isn't an issue, it is noticeable when you have white text on black background though.

But it is just surprising from Samsung as to why they didn't use RGB matrix instead  especially when the X screen is jaw dropping overall.

Do you not think the eye tracking will hamper the battery life though, it will be constantly tracking your eyes etc. of course you will probably be able to turn this feature off though, right?

would you be happier if the phone did not have the features ? it better have them even if they are copied of other make :) this is what pushes them to invent something else!

Of course it is great that they have the features, but it would have been nice if they came up with other features or something else as well, instead of just "copying" what HTC have done and showing it off as if they came up with the features first, which is exactly what Apple do.

Wait, what.......how does it make them invent something else if they just copy other phones features :p :D Look at Apple and android, apple haven't really invented anything, just simply taken an idea and polished it up a bit and make it out as if it is brand new and they came up with it :p

Those benchmarks look good! Be good to see a video comparing the S and GS 3 for real world performance in general usage now!

I think any speed differences between the S/X and 3 are going to be negligible at best.

For speed the X has eaten everything I've thrown at it for breakfast, despite the Tegra 3 not being the best around.

But then, so did the Galaxy S 2... we're really hitting a performance roof now as to what will actually benefit you in the real world.

It's not that though, it's more the fact that they've taken the design in the direction of the Galaxy Ace rather than something new, which is just poor.

Most of this thread was people looking forward to a fresh design and it's really not. :(

Benchmarks are looking good though, it should be as fast as expected.

hmm.. i had a thought.. if they make the ceramic back they would probably be limiting them selves to what if any battery covers they can use.. same with metal and glass?! metal would bend, glass would crack and ceramic would crack too? so logically this is the best they can do - high grade plastic

If anything, the shape reminds me of the HTC magic which was my first Android phone!

You've been sucked into the hype too much - there isn't a weak point on the S3?

It all comes down to personal preference - this phone is **** hot all thing considered.

Absolutely not. I didnt buy an SII because of its cheap looks, the SIII suffers from a similar affliction. Its weak points are as mentioned the camera and design. The HTC One X is a better proposition imo. (Ill be waiting for the next Sony I suspect).

yes but htc has invented something new = new features on other phones.. samsung invents something htc will sure as hell have it too.. and the a year or so later apple with add the feature and only then will people find out about it and go "omg my apple glassjar has the NEW feature that no other phones have"

Yeah probably but be interesting to see either way anyway :p

And same for me and my S as well! :p :D 60 or so apps installed and not one of them have lagged or slowed down at all.

True, the only thing left is really just software and driver optimization.

RGB Matrix is sorely missed - but at this PPI - Not too much of a biggy. Cost and low yields were probably the reason.

Eye tracking - Samsung know about batterylife so I'm sure they have designed it with that in mind - wait for real life stats I guess. Must be an option to turn it off.

Implementing quick shooting and HDR is hardly copying - it's natural progression and elements bought along with ICS API's.

That GPU does look mighty.

I've been ignoring the comments about the camera since they are infantile and show a lack of understanding. Not all 8MP cameras are the same and not because it's 8MP like on the SGS II means it's the same sensor.

Like most on here I'm disappointed with the design - It doesn't even look as good as the G Nexus nevermind the One X. Pentile screen is also a surprise - I guess AMOLED technology hasn't advanced enough to pack 720p worth of
RGB sub pixels in 4.8 inches. Maybe next year, eh?

It does however seem to post some great benchmark numbers, even compared to the S4:

The I/O performance as measured in Quadrant is particularly impressive:

Have Samsung leveraged their flash expertise to include some really fast NAND?
