I had almost sorted my spec, down to the last component, and then OcUK went and threw a spanner in the works by lowering their prices today :p

The choice is between:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti "448 Edition" WindForce 3X OC 1280MB GDDR5 @ £167.99

and

VTX3D HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 @ £179.99

Originally I was going to go for the 7850 option, but then the 560Ti 448's price was lowered, and budget is a big one, so... Hmmmm!

It's mainly a gaming system, mostly playing ArmA 2 and ArmA 3 when that's released. I'd also like to play most new and upcoming titles at medium-high graphics settings.

My basket looks like this so far:

Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail - £86.39
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - £84.98
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black - £39.98
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit - £22.99

Don't get the VTX, if you get a 7850 get the Sapphire for £5 more with a much MUCH better cooler.

The 560Ti 448 is a nice card, no question. However the 7850 is better. And once overclocked will leave the 560 for dust. Not to mention they use much less power, and run so much cooler.

Personally I'd stump up the extra £18 and get the Sapphire 7850.

+1

I am not sure on the coolers but HeX knows his 7850's :)

Go for the HD 7850, it has more memory, 28nm runs cool and these 7850's overclock much better than the 560's. Add another 7850 later on and you have a monster setup that doesn't use much power..

The Sapphire version is worth the extra £X for the better cooler imho.

Just to add im running an i3 2100 @3.1ghz with an asus 7850 and it runs all the games i have at a decent enough framerate @ 1080p. It does dip a little here and there but mainly runs very well indeeed. I would imagine a 64 multiplayer game of battlefield 3 would struggle on your setup but other than that id say it will manage quite well.
Mine does anyway.
And im sure the i3's are locked so an OC is out of the question sadly.

I got the vtx running 1150 / 5600 @ 1.80v it does get a little hot, taking the plastic air flue thing drops it 10c so mine runs full load @ 74c fan speed 60%
