Diamond Jubilee - why this weekend?

Why has this weekend and Bank Holiday been chosen to mark the Jubilee?

She became Queen in February 1952 and the coronation wasn't until June 1953, so does this weekend actually have an date relevance or was it just chosen for the time of year/ weather Etc?
 
Well that did occur to me :)
I understand QEII has been on the throne for 60 years as she became Queen effectively as soon as her Dad died in February 1952.
It was just this weekend I don't understand the reasoning for.
 
why do we have to even bother having days off for her coronation having a monarch now is pointless she doesn't play a part in our polotics or running of the country she is just there to look nice she can't do anything in relation to the countries political affairs

Of all the complaints against monarchy, you've just picked the one thing they're good for, extra holidays. Now go and have a word with yourself ;)
