Quick update on my issues earlier.

Sent the board back in the end and got a new one.

Exactly the same thing happening! The only thing I hadn't changed was the PSU. It was powering up fine but just not getting a display after initial splash screen.

Got a new PSU and all sorted! So it was the PSU all a long. Anyway all good now and learnt a bit about trouble shooting along the way!

Just started my first bit of overclocking. Currently got a i5 3570k running stable at 4.5 with a vcore of 1.225. Just working my way down the vcore at the moment to see how low I can go. Does this sound about ok? Max temps between 57 & 62.

what model psu was it that was causing problems?

It was the one from my previous system (2007!). A BFG 800w.

I think they were quite well regarded at the time but it would appear that they have now disappeared.

BFG went bust due to issues with Nvidia.

I have just finished overclocking my new ring - upgraded from [email protected] & Asus P5e. I did my last bulid 4 years ago and with the new one took me a while to learn all this new UEFI bios features.

Before I started playing with my new toys, decided to set some limits on overclock:
- 3570k temps in Prime95 Small FFT's - low 70C,
- RAM voltage 1.5V max,
- HD4000 to 1400MHz (only GPU at the moment).

So I updated bios to F8, set FSB=100.10, Turbo=disabled , CPUPLL=Extreme, multi=43, Vcore=1.200V. It was stable for 6h in Prime, but some WHEA errors in event log. By increasing Vcore to 1.210V all errors gone, but instant BSOD when opened TwitchTV (Adobe Flash Player) in IE9. As final "stability test" played TwitchTV in 8 separete windows in one time for 2hr - was able to do that after pumping Vcore to 1.235V. Hottest core after 10hr Prime95 Small FFT's 72C (ambient 21C).

Overclocked RAM to 1866MHz 10-10-9-12-1T @1.410V - ok in Memtest86+ for 6 runs. To get it stable in MemTest 4.0 in Windows added some more - final 1.430V.

HD4000 @1400MHz survived 30min in OCCT GPU test with GFX offest +0.055.

As for the other settings:
- LLC Vcore=Extreme, GFX=Medium, DDR=Normal, CPU Vtt=Normal,
- CPU Vtt=1.05, CPU PLL=1.5, IMC=0.925,
- disabled Turbo, all other CPU & iGPU power savings features enabled.

If you like numbers there are some benchmarks:
- 3dM Vantage: total=+17%(5018), CPU=+11%(22709), GPU=+17%(3983);
- 3dM 11: total=+16%(917), GPU=+16%(778), Physics=+14%(7628), Combined=+15%(937);
- MafiaII benchmark: +16%(33.8);
- AIDA64:
---Memory: Read=+11%(20991), Write=+3%(21646), Copy=+12%(24007), Latency=-9%(39.6),
---L3 Cache: Read=+9%(43103), Write=+3%(30889), Copy=+6%(39113), Latency=-3%(3.5).

As a final world I must to say I am pretty happy with my Gigabyte motherboard, which is solid and full of features. And I am quite impressed by iGPU - can play Mound & Blade Warband or X3 Albion Prelude just fine.
As you can see looking on settings, my CPU is not the best one, but as long as it is able to do 4.3GHz @~72c with old Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme I can live with it.

Finally had my first screech in ages :/

Can anyone recommend some settings for a decent, not too high overclock on a 3770k ? I'm thinking around 4.5ghz but no idea what volts to try etc. Anyone got anything that is known to work so I can start with that?

I was going to try the above posts settings but wasn't sure what I might need to adjust given the chip differences.

More of a screech rather than a loop. A constant high pitch sound

That is the hardlock issue i am experiencing too.

Did it happen whilst gaming or browsing?

I had been getting the lock up semi regular but it went away after I flashed to F8, changed my memory settings, changed my BCLK to 100 and updated all my drivers.

The exact sequence of events leading to this one:
1. Been on PC for most the evening, then had a problem with TS3 and playing CSS where my sound stopped working. (Had this on my old pc also tbf, think it's a x-fi driver issue)
2. Rebooted PC
3. Went straight back on TS3, loaded CSS and within 5 minutes it froze.
4. Rebooted and was fine.

What memory settings are you using for the Samsung green and are you using onboard sound?

I am on F8
BCLK = 100.1

Everest tells me that on auto the ram voltage is 1.55v
I have tried it on auto and also setting ram to 1.55v. I have not tried to give it any more.

I have tried VTT on auto (1.05), and setting it to 1.10, 1.12 and now since last night to 1.15 as i had a lockup whilst playing BF3.

I am using my x-fi fatality fps PCI card with the PAX drivers.

A guy on Overclock.net reckoned he had lockups with some firewire audio card he had, and when he got rid of it the lockups went.

So it was suggested that i do the same and use the x-fi onboard to troubleshoot.

If i get another lockup after the raising of VTT to 1.15 then that is what i will do.

Gigabyte support wanted me to install F9c, but there is an issue with it so i went back to F8, so i never got the chance to see if a lockup happened on that BIOS

Right then soundcard is coming out tonight and I'll see if it makes a difference using onboard.

Let us know how it goes broo.

And tell us what the onboard x-fi sound quality is like compared to the dedicated card. Seemingly it is very good but i would love if you could let us know your judgement

What changes did you make to your memory if you don't mind me asking?

Sure, I'm running these settings from the product page (on OCUK) : 2133MHz (10-10-10-28 1N) @ 1.45v

I was running 1866MHz (9-9-9-27 1N) @ 1.40v but that seemed to be less stable. Then again I was changing so many things it might not of been!

I'm pretty fussy with sound so I'll let you know what it's like
