Ok continuing on from my other thread as that was a separate question, I'm now at the stage to buy the card(s).

I'm going to be gaming at 2560x1600 on my new Hazro HZ30Wie.

I did get confused in the other thread in regards to the vram etc so I'm just going to go by whichever gets the most thumbs up so to speak. Could also go for 2x4GB 670s I suppose!

What would you choose in what order? Reason I ask for what order is I may not be able to get 3 670s I may only be able to afford 2 it depends on the rest of my build.

Thanks

a single 670 is almost as good as the 2gb 680. difference is minute. 2 cards would obviously take up more space and I would imagine would run hotter, but IMO I'd get the 2 cards. If 1 were to die, you have a kick ass backup, and I prefer dual cards anyway.
Just my two cents :)

At that res for games like BF3 you will need two cards to keep it constantly above 60FPS. The difference in 670's and 680's is small enough but the price is not so I'd go for them.

On the VRAM side of things I'd be going for 4GB cards if you plan on keeping them over a year since newer titles will only start using more VRAM in following years. 2GB will suffice for most games unless you go multi-monitor or start doing texture mods.

Ok cool thanks both of you, I'll bare that in mind... I must admit when the next gen of cards come out I'll be getting one of them straight away so I guess it's just to tide me over for 6 months until the next lot are supposedly due out. Thanks again.

Well if you are planning on selling and upgrading on the next round of cards and staying to the one 2560X1440p monitor then I would definitely go for the SLI 2gb pack. The 780 and 770 will be out by March again presumably so they should do the business.

I've been lucky enough to have both of your options. I had to swap the KFA2s for the EVGAs because the cooling in my case obviously wasn't good enough to run SLI with aftermarket coolers, (my case doesn't have side fans....although I've since found out that Corsair make a replacement side panel which allows fans to be fitted ).

I also went for 4GB to future proof as I'm running 3 monitors, but if you're planning to upgrade when the GK110s appear, then as chipachap said, the SLI pack is a great deal - a free game and £150 cheaper. I really liked the KFA2s because they clocked at 120MHz higher in SLI out of the box than the EVGAs did, (for me anyway - obviously each card is different and I was probably lucky).

If it hadn't been for the cooling and needing the reference cards for venting the heat out the back and not wanting to upgrade for a while, I would've kept the 2GB KFA2s because it'll most likely be a few months before we see games needing more than 2GB at 1440p and above and by then the GK110 or an equivalent will probably be available.

the main thing that starts needing high amounts of VRAM is high MSAA settings... once nvidia / developers pull their finger out an implement TXAA this will be less critical anyway

even now 2GB is fine for 1600p so I would save the hundred quid per card and go 2GB SLI 670 personally... 4GB is only worth it if you plan on 3 screening
