Hello,

My lovely new Gigabyte Windforce 670 arrives today. I'm upgrading from a 570 and could use some advice on what to do.

Here's my plan so far.
1. Remove 570 card.
2. Uninstall all nvidia drivers through Control Panel.
3. Put 670 card in.
4. Download latest drivers from nvidia site.
5. Install drivers.

Is there anything different I should do?

Thanks!

1. Download latest drivers from nvidia site.
2. Uninstall all nvidia drivers through Nvidia in the Add/remove programs.
2. Remove 570 card.
3. Put 670 card in PC and boot up.
4. Wait for legacy(Microsoft) drivers to install then reboot.
5. Install Nvidia drivers.
6. Keep a hold of your 570 in case you are unlucky enough to get the stutter bug(fingers crossed you won't).
7. Hopefully all is fine, play some games!:D

Good advice except number 6 Tommy...You seem to have taken this stutter problem personal and yet you don't have a 670/80 or ever had the stutter problem.

Brilliant. So I'm more or less on the right track.

What's the stutter bug please?

Yes, you were on the right track.

The stutter bug is an ongoing driver problem with the 6 series, however not every setup has the issue, most don't afaik hence the reference to keeping a hold of your 570 just in case.

Despite the ongoing spite(from some users) surrounding the driver problem, I feel obliged to let fellow posters know of the problem in case they sell their old gpu with nothing to fall back on should they want to return their very costly shiny new toy.:)

I would tend not to deflate new buyers. A very very small minority have this stutter bug and in most cases, it has been resolved with the latest Beta drivers.

I see no need to mention it unless somebody asks what the problem is. I am sure a search would bring up the stutter problem.

and what spite?

Good luck with your card OP. I am sure you will have many many gaming hours with out hassle and if you do have any probs, there is plenty of knowledgable guys here to help.

I have had my gigabyte gtx670 since last thursday and have not yet had any stutter at all . And thats after around 30 hours of gaming .

Problem being it clearly is not fixed in most cases.

As I have pointed out those who never had the problem in the first place is the ones wrongly saying it's fixed.

But you already know all this...

When Nvidia start doing an 'AMD special' and start deleting posts in their forum, you know there is a problem.

Folks are jumping the gun with 'it's fixed' when it's not is someone's huge pita when they pull the trigger, buy it to send it back at a cost.

I would crack up if it happened to me and I'm sure you would too.
I am a 680 user & I have massive stuttering problems with my set up. I did not know nvidia had identified the problem & were actively working on it. Now I do.

He's helped at least one person here

Says it all tbph, if folks are not aware of the problem.

How much wasted time gets thrown at a problem and sometimes more money too, when a simple bit of information is all it takes in the first place?

If that can be avoided then why the fuss when the stutter problem is mentioned?

Damned if I point out reasons, damned if I don't.:(
