Currently lost in the summer sale but they also confirmed GFWL in the requirements thankfully :D physical edition is better though it has a lot of goodies so unless you only buy on Steam pre-order that out instead (cheapest is £29.95).

Wonder if the petitioners will create a 3rd petition for From Software/Namco to ignore asking for the removal of GFWL at this late stage ;)

Awesome, I for one will be getting a boxed copy for sure. :D

Doesn't this game suffer from consolitis? Like a really bad straight forward console port, or so I read.

It seems so, reading around and watching some videos it seems it's going to be a straight port, no improvements or extra fixes.

The guys working on the port said they're having a tough job getting it done and have just resorted to a quick port. Things like the massive lag and slowdown in blight town are said to remain, as well as no improvements like a greater fps cap.

The fact that PC players will be using more powerful hardware should eliminate any frame rate issues experienced on the console versions.

^ nope...the game is locked at 30 FPS..which isn't enough frames for some places

its bad enough they wont allow 60fps....but putting it on GFWL and not Steam is just down right stupid

Because being on GFWL is good news for the achievement whores out there and it may be possible to link achievements with the 360 version for those who even care about this sort of thing (Not for me personally).

And yes I'm one of the few people who doesn't have a problem with GFWL. Sure the interface is slow and jankey (Animation wise), but other than that, I can play my games fine and never had any real issues like a lot of people do, which from what I see is mostly down to giltchy GFWL software installations or other conflicting problems related to it (Certain Microsoft updates or the Visual C++ Redistributable packs).

People can whine all and create as many petitions as they want, but it's far too late and pretty much useless to have a Steamworks version at this point.

Uhhh....it is on Steam. :p

Why would you be glad about that? I can understand not having issues with it but what good does it bring apart from that.
Why would you not be ;) Seamless minimal interface, achievements, easy to use minimal memory footprint. Does not require Steam running in the background either (unless you made the mistake of buying from Steam & not getting all the physical extras retail gets).

This is what the games producer had to say about GFWL being their choice.

"When I asked him about “Games for Windows Live” and why they choose to use it, he explained that From Software was new to the process of putting software on PCs and it’s all a learning process for them. “Games for Windows Live” offered them a relatively easy, but more importantly, faster way of delivering it to the platform."

So as you can see GFWL made Dark Souls possible on PC in a short timeframe the alternative was they would have made the Prepare To Die content for consoles as DLC then worked on PC in a year or so. I know most PC gamers would rather thave the game with GFWL in a month than wait almost a year ;)

Namco/From Software are taking a big financial risk here as they have for once put PC ahead of console & gambled PC gamers will reward this with healthy sales. If it fails on PC they still have to make the content for the consoles as its PC exclusive on 24th August. It will take them at least 3 months to port that Prepare To Die content to consoles.

Most legit buyer PC gamers do not want any DRM whastover. GFWL is pretty close to that once its activated & running seamlessly in the background ;)

I wanted this for PC when the petition etc came up, but with GFWL and it being a direct port, it's now a big no thanks from me.

I read that as somewhere between 'Microsoft offered us a wad of cash to use GFWL' and 'We were just looking to port it as quickly as possible for a quick buck, why would we care about GFWLs reputation on PC?'. Did anyone else?

Of course.

Locked to 30 FPS, uses GFWL, no improvements over the console versions, will most likely be a buggy PoS.

No because most people aren't entitled children who throw their toys out of the pram when they don't get exactly what they want.

All I read then was "I love wasting money on obvious half-assed ports to make a quick buck from people instead of taking time and using money to properly improve the game to give gamers the best experience possible for their platform."

Oh wait, wanting a decent port makes me ENTITLED. Lololol.

I have the attitude you are pointing at here.
If they aren't going to put the effort in to simple things like removing the 30fps barrier & maybe some higher res textures why should I hand them my money? Especially when I already have the game on the 360. I was wanting the PC version as I assumed (mistake I guess) that it would be better, have upgraded graphics & run at 60fps. If the devs cant be bothered then neither can I.
