So we have heard the term "Photoshopping" many of times when an image is converted or edited in Photoshop and this can sometimes deceive the eye and look real when in fact it may not be real.

Graphic design and coding is becoming just insane all of the time and I could see soon that games, rendered work is just going to look so real we could not tell if it is a film or simply animation.

For example the incredible work here:

Is this a good thing? Of course it is, advancing technology brings new things and we all love to see the latest technology and improvements.

However, I was thinking of the bad things, for example, CCTV, this is used a lot for resolving crime, what if it was flipped around and someone could edit a crime so well that it looks real to get someone in prison? Sounds a bit extreme, but you never know!

What are your thoughts on making something fake into reality?

Even though the graphics in that video are incredible, they are still a long way off becoming perfect. I'm sure eventually graphics will become so advanced you can't tell the difference, but I would say we are some way off until that happens.

That's only because it's real time graphics. There are a lot of pre-rendered showcases i've seen recently where i honestly couldn't tell if it was real or not.

As for games getting that good, who knows how long it might take but it seems to be on the way.

I remember seeing another video with advancing graphics but cannot find it now, but it was incredible as they zoomed into textures and it still looked real. They were copying rocks, and other real life textures and it looks like they were filming the original rock when in fact it was all rendered.

Currently I believe most videos you can tell if it is fake, however I don't think it will take long until these things start playing with our mind.

I think if games looked like real life they would just be too terrifying to play, imagine something like GTA that looked like reality. It would be too grim.

If you have any examples I'd love to take a look :)

Well technology is moving faster and faster! Just take a look at the graphics we had to play with 10 years ago! It really is amazing how fast it's developing. Who knows what to expect in the next 10 years! :p

I am sure it will happen. Maybe grim to our generation, but how far will it go? There are X rated films from the past which are not any more because the nature of how we have developed to just accept it.

That trailer is amazing. Need to watch it in full to actually see it.

The problem i have, is some games can focus on the GFX that much the story lines a fail. For me aslong as they get the right blend. Im all for the fake - reality to come ahead.

Eeesh this is what scares me the most about media in general... With the internet we are slowly being desensitize to stuff like gore and what not :(

Well look at the film The Human Centipede, many years ago that would not be allowed, but we just accept it now. Laugh about it and go eeewww that is sick. But we get used to it.

Human Centipede is tame. A Serbian Film is a better example. ;)

Point proven. :)
We move onto something more sickening, so we get used to it.

Also games want us to be in the game like the Wii, the Kinect etc so you are doing actions, same the graphics. So in GTA will be we acting out the killings?

How far will it all go?

Couldn't find some of the ones i was looking for so just grabbed the film ones :o

0:52 to 1:10 is pretty awesome.

If it were to advance to the point of acting out the killings... Could that not be a good thing?

I mean, if people could get the actual feeling of killing someone in a game and the experience, etc. then would they be like to actually kill a person in real life?

It's not something we'll know till we get there!

Yeah i know what you mean. I bet if something like that was plonked in the middle of a normal non CG film no one would think twice though. Avengers was perfect imo, i went to see it a second time purely to look at the CG lol :o
