hi Guys

i had £600 due to be taken from my account today as a wonga repayment

however looked at online banking and it stated that wonga took just £290 leaving me £5

i called Wonga to find out why the full balance was taken , and they advised me that i am up to date and i dont owe them anything (wonga online states the same)

i have 2 cards on the account mine which is primary and my GFs as a secondary

is it possible they took £290 from me and the rest from her?

Wonga did say they were having tech difficulties, what are the chances of this meaning i get away without having to pay £310

thanks

Crazy way to obtain money, cc to withdraw cash is at least only about 20% apr + £3 in most cases, not 25000%. OP, in answer to your question it's unlikely at best

So you were due to have £600 taken today, yet only had £295 in your account? What exactly did you expect to happen if they took the full £600? With your sterling money management skills im surprised you needed to use Wonga at all in the first place.

Also, have you tried asking your girlfriend? Im sure she could tell you if she's suddenly missing £310 better than we could.

Why on earth use wonga. Please tell me you at least spoke to your bank first about financing options if it was urgent.

It's a terrible way to borrow money, but if you need the money and that's the only way...

Plus the % look high as there shown on a per year basis as that's what people understand, you don't borrow money from wonga over a year so it's a bit misleading. Still, it's not reasonable. No, I've never used wonga.

Unfortunately many of the people who borrow from these places do end up borrowing for many months despite intending it to be for days, as mentioned elsewhere it's a no win situation.

Even using a credit card to lift cash or using an overdraft and paying a ridiculous £1 a day for using it is a better option if it's a real short term crisis. Of course most people who need to use wonga etc don't have this option - the very reason they don't have the option should mean they know better than to get into the situation again...

im not really going to get into detail about why i have used Wonga, however there are a few other people in the world that use wonga besides myself that's why they are worth 100m or more, and APR doesn't really mean anything on a short term loan as APR is an annual charge

unfortunately GF doesn't have access to her account some **** about not having a pin so they will not speak to her...guess ill just have to get a statement tonight and check the balance

regarding not having the money in there on the day, i was going to pay the whole balance from my GF account today as its fine as long as you pay on the day

If you borrowed £600 then they are entitled to £600 back, if they have a system issue today and it gets rectified tomorrow they are within their rights to claim for the rest of the owing balance, or charge interest on the outstanding until you clear the balance you hold with them. The likelihood that they completely deleted your outstanding balance of £310 is tiny, so expect them to come for it at some point. However if the delay in collection affects you, you should be able to come to a mutual agreement on payback.

Sorry, this is nonsense. If she can prove who she is, she has access to her account. No bank would refuse to speak to her because she doesn't remember a pin number.

That what she just told me when i called...i guess ill try her again :D
