Limited company car choices

Its still a fairly poorly specced car in S trim, the Superb. I'd plump for one of the frogs tbh.

With company car money, I would look at the C5, but I really like them for comfort. Own purchase, I wouldn't look at it due to monster depreciation.

I'd just go with whatever had the most toys for the least money, they're all going to be dog slow and boring anyway with 1.6 diesels!

Similar to mine so that's about £210ish after tax I think, add on the company car tax which is say £130 (the rough figure for the 508).

So can you get something you'd rather have for £340 a month, bearing in mind you'll have to insure and maintain it as well?

How does mileage work, do you get the HMRC rate or less? If less then there are tax benefits to using your own car over a company one as well to consider (for instance for me it's £150 a month worth of tax relief).

What's your expected mileage a year?

I'd be half tempted to see what you could get on a personal lease and take the hit on the insurance and maintenance on top. Yeah it will cost you more (although there are some good deals about) you'll get something a lot better.

Something like http://www.freedomcontracts.com/viewdeal.asp?ID=1294 for instance isn't a bad deal as an example.

508 has the nicest interior of the lot. Looks good outside in the right trim (can you get the options from their version of an all road, the exact spec escapes me)

I'd also be tempted to take the money and buy something myself. That list is fairly dire.

It may end up costing you more money but then most people pay to run a car anyway so it's probably not going to cost you more than you'd spend normally if you didnt have a company car, if that makes sense.

This looks a pretty good deal (just been browsing the site linked)

£220 inc vat for a new superb with a non terrible engine would be tempting for me, you'll need to up the mileage so the per month cost will go up but it wouldn't be that much more. You'd actually probably still be better buying a year old superb, even if it was on some kind of pcp for 2 years

List price is north of £20k (not sure what a new one can be had for though) and a 2 year old one comes in about £14k retail so assume a trade of say £12k making the lease work out pretty well in the grand scheme of things at about £6k overall cost (for 10kpa anyway)

Playing about with the mileages here: http://www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk/Skoda_Superb-20_TDI_CR_170_SE-41287-quote.htm at 15k pa it's only about £20 per month increase, even at 20k it's still around £260 per month

I think I'd take the Focus of that lot.

If you were allowed a 2.0 engine I'd be looking at the larger cars all the way, but I just can't see a 1.6 being particularly pleasant hauling around an enormous great Superb or 508.

I've driven a 1.6 HDi C5 and it was really lethargic.

I drove a 1.6 petrol Mk3 Focus Zetec last weekend and I was impressed. It was a Powershift automatic, but it didn't feel too slow and the TDCi is nearly a second quicker to 60 than the petrol. The spec is pretty good on the Zetec and it's a much more grown up car than the previous models in terms of comfort and refinement - many on here will say it's just a bog standard hatchback and of course it is, but the game has clearly moved on and the gap to the "premium" cars is ever shrinking. The friend who's car it is also has a 2008 Merc C180K Sport and he says the Focus is as smooth and comfortable to drive as that.

Tax:

Citroen - 19%
Focus - 15%
Mondeo - 16%
Insight - 10%
Peugeot - 17%
Skoda - 16%

I'm finding those figures surprisingly high for 1.6L diesels in this day and age tbh. The new 150PS 2.0TDI in the A3, and presumably soon to appear in the next Golf plus Skodas and Seats is 106g/km which equates to 15%!

Freedom do get some good lease deals now and again, it's who my folks are getting an S5 through and it's not costing much in the grand scheme of things.

Even if you just went with that Superb at £220 a month that leaves you another £120 to run it (insurance and servicing etc).
