A white 1.0 Corsa with no history that's been to the moon and back? No thanks. Especially not at over £1100.
I don't know tbh. A mechanic pal has told him to look for a 4 cylinder 1.2 Polo, but we're having trouble finding one for a grand.
I reckon he should save a bit more for a decent 2002 example, but you know what 18 year old's are like when they pass their test, they want to get on the road ASAP.

Look out for the Skoda Fabia, it was basically the same car and came out a year earlier. Although I'm not 100% it has the same engine choice. I expect it will also be cheaper to insure.
I learned in a 1 litre mark 1 Corsa and it was dire. The instructor changed it for a Ka when he left BSM, it was a lot better. This is despite the generally consensus being that one of the worst things about the KA is it's engine.
I think corsas tend to attract a bit of a premium, I've done a search for £1k cars in 30 miles of watford, the one the OP found is about ballpark.
If you really want a corsa I'd avoid the 1.0..

Comfort was low spec as well I think? Wheels may be an insurance problem, bang them on ebay, buy some steels from a scrappy - might even make a quid or two

OP, do some investigation on insurance, I seem to remember a while ago you could get larger cars (like a mondeo etc) with say a 1600 engine and they were cheaper on insurance, its worth a look if it expands the possible purchases and gives you more choice.
ETA: I'd also buy private, you should get a bit more for your cash that way.

Watch for those Polo's, they have weak gearbox's. Especially the diesels.
I see this and it just looks crazy expensive for what is a little rubbish car. I got my Jaguar for £700 and difference is that it's a real nice place to be, a true mile eater and several times more car that some shoddy old ultra high mileage Corsa on it's last legs.
