Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

I had a brand new replacement for an outlet laptop last year. I bought an M18x R1 which had dual GTX460M graphics cards, but the SLI did not work. After 3 repair attempts and some email/twitter harassment from me they eventually replaced it with a new one. It wasn't the same spec though; the replacement just had a single GTX560M.

I the spec was less than you paid for then surely you shouldn't have accepted it and fought longer for a higher spec?

I did argue about it however they refused as I had only paid £700 for the refurb, compared with the £1750 list price of the new one. They said the only other option was to refund my money, which obviously I didn't want!

Just ordered an M18X, can anyone help with the following.

I am assuming it has SATA III ports, if so how many?

What are the max capacity drives in each slot it can handle?

What RAID options does the board support?

If that's the case I'll be getting my £2877 back then, can't be doing with getting another faulty machine :(

Nearly 3K for a laptop, that is a lot.... I thought I'd paid a heck of a lot of money for my alienware M17x but you've gone the whole yard on yours..

Must be heck of a spec.. Hope it gets sorted, for that sort of money they'd better sort it.

Nice spec!

It has two sata3 and one sata2 connector so 3 2.5" HDD's in total. Plus one mSata port which is sata2 speed. Raid is 0 or 1.

I guess I'll get a big HDD for the Sata 2 port and 2 SSDS for the Sata 3 ports.

argh i could scream , i actually got an r4 with blu ray reader etc was perfect in every way
clicked it as soon as it appeared, did the captcha thing as fast as my fingers could type and it was gone

its so frustrating, might have to look elsewhere as im not sure my sanity can take much more of this (have been doing it since last year off and on)

I actually think my heart's gonna pop at 2:15 one of these days. Don't really know why.... it's like entering the Olympic 100m finals and you've got Usain Bolt lined up next to. Yeah, there's a chance but that chance is somewhat small. Cracking machine today too.

Just phoned dell up, they reacon they don't offer anywhere near the 20percent discount off I think I read earlier in this thread, they knocked 100 off a 1500 laptop and said that's the best they can do

Might need to try again or I might need to go down Clevo route or look elsewhere

going by your sig, you've got an Alienware already?

I ordered mine yesterday, there is no possible way I can pick one up off the outlet with my school times for about a month which is a problem as I kinda need a pc now'ish

So the deal is, you will not get much off a base spec laptop. bump the specs up a lot and you'll get closer to that 20% I mentioned. Secondly, you wont get it though random dell man. You will have to search another forum to get the person who can offer you a large discount (my sig I got 13% off)
