They were going to charge me £12 for a 4GB Jessops own card instore just before Christmas... I ended up going to Argos and getting an 8GB Sandisk with 30mb/s read/write for £14. Not exactly good value for money so I doubt I would have ever bought anything from them again.

argos over charged you also £14 for 8gb
my 16gb SanDisk Extreme 45mb's was £10

The only shops i ever went in when i used to go shopping with my sister, was wh smiths, curries, dixons, jessops, hmv and sport or skate clothes shops and as i got older maybe a burtons etc. But as i don't have a g/f i don't go shopping in the sense of just walking around, if i need something i map out the route and go in and out asap. But if i ever do get a g/f and we go out shopping for the day then i will realy struggle as most of the shops i would go in are closing. Realy only curries and wh smith left and i don't know how long they are going to last.

When i went back to southampton town center a few years ago after moving away from there in 2005. all the good clothes shops had closed down and one was left and one had moved. But legends was gone and a lot of shops were closed up.

I know they did, but I had no choice at the time as the 16gb Sandisk 45mb/s I ordered online for £10.50 hadn't came and I needed one for Christmas day (it was Christmas eve that I bought the 8gb one from Argos)

I think the only time I got something from Jessops was when I needed some passport photos and I used their service where they take a digital picture and if you are happy with it then they print you some off (and those automatic boots make me look like a convict).

I was quite happy with the service I received ...

It's a real shame. I used to work for Jessops in Cheltenham and we had a great team - with a very good rep with customers both local professional photographers for specialist kit, and also enthusiasts.
As mentioned above we were not on commision and were well trained and informed. Everyone who worked with me were all into photography and were always keen to give imparial advice. I had just gained a degree in photography and wanted to pay off some debts before moving to London to persue a career in photography (never happened btw! :p).
Anyway, a big middle finger to the idiots saying good riddance and hope that everyone who works for them finds work soon.

I can't help but feel maybe it was a little sneaky of them. To wait until just after Xmas.
Then to say they will no longer accept vouchers or returns. They must have had a feeling it was going to happen yet still sold the vouchers in the lead up to the holidays. Probably trying to gather as much cash as possible before the administrators were called in.

I don't think you can paint it like that.

Many retailers rely on Xmas for turning their largest amount of profit of the financial year. Jessops likely had pretty dire trading over the period, which is why they have now had to go into administration after reviewing the figures, rather than it being a case of being deliberately sneaky to make money and then shut up shop.

I've a limited experience with Jessops, due to their prices, but if the rest of their retail outfits were anything like their New Oxford Street London store or the Bluewater cubicle they called "shop" then they were next to useless at just about everything, never had anything in store, would not price match anything bar Comet and Dixons, if at all. In capital they replaced London Camera Exchange, which in retrospect was gazillion times better and felt like it was mostly staffed by enthusiasts in comparison.

I often also felt, and this is purely anecdotal, like some shop managers or staff were taking some liberties with in store pricing. On more than one occasion I would check a price of an item online, then pop my head into the store just to find price moderately inflated vs their own online price and then be refused when I asked them to match their own advertised pricetag. Couple of years ago I was buying "last minute" compact for my mum and actually booked it online "for collection" from restaurant next door just to come back and buy it at correct price after being refused price match 30 minutes prior.

Yeah. I can see it from that side I suppose. I guess I'm just cynical.
It just seems harsh that you can purchase a voucher then 2 weeks later they won't honour it.

Feel the same way, They took the money a few weeks ago. You can't tell me a company that size has put all hope on this Christmas being different from the past 5 they have had?

They should honour all vouchers for a week or something at least.

Well that's it then. Woolies, Dixons, Comet, Game, Our Price, Jessops, Index - all gone. All we'll have left in Stafford are Starbucks/Costa/Nero, betting shops, charity shops, the banks, Argos at one end and Weatherspoons at both ends lol. Virtually every empty shop window has a "for let A.J. Philips" sign like as if he owns and rents out the entire high street.

Bit of a pain, but they were useful for picking up the small things quickly - memory cards etc...

kd

They were an absolute rip off and didnt offer any of the basics that couldn't be picked up quickly else where for cheaper, or any of the specialist products that couldn't be had online far far cheaper, it is no surprise they are going under.
