Speed limit threshold in France?

The UK ACPO charging threshold guideline is +10% +2mph so you will typically not be charged if you drive at less than 35 mph in a 30 mph limit zone or at less than 70 mph on a motorway (LINK).

Does anyone know what the equivalent guidelines are in France?

Can we even be prosecuted by a fixed installation or speed gun in France?

I have driven through many fixed gatso type cameras at over the speed limit in France in the past, as i am sure we all have. Never heard a thing.

Being caught by an officer - End up getting your car seized or a hefty roadside fine depending on your speed.

Guideline is simple - Do not give cause to being open to fine/prosecution.

just stick to the limits and you will be fine :)
Sage advice which I will certainly continue to follow. However, not really an answer to my question, nobody here seems to know what leeway one has.

It is my understanding that the French last year removed all warnings about the presence of speed cameras and have made it an offence to have a SatNav give warnings of their proximity. Added to that, I believe that their speed cameras catch "approaching" cars, so you don't see them until you have been caught.

I was under the impression there was now an EU agreement so motoring fines could be sent across boarders.

Don't believe so, however if there are, are the plod over here likely to spend time chasing driving fines from a different country?
I guess it depends how automated the system is. I'd have thought if it was from a fixed camera and everything was already electronically stored it could be a couple of button presses to get it sent off to the right country.

Saying that friends of mine never heard anything when they got flashed by a camera in France

I got flashed at around 150 on the way to Le Mans last year and did not hear anything... wont be taking my car this year though....

Just watch out for the gendarmarie with speed guns hiding under bridges/road furnature, they will take all your euros.

I always believed the french system was better than here. They hide, but they also have 'rules', ie for example than can't time you on bends etc, and they can be as good as they can be bad (especially the gendarmerie)

Rule #1, be as polite as you can manage, do not deny anything, but try to mitigate (ie I was passing, I got confused with miles/km, or even sorry I felt like pushing a little here as it was lovely and straight etc)

Ultimately, you WERE speeding, and you shouldn't, really. In this country it's borderline as if they are going to put a sign 1/4 mile before the cameras really, that doesn't stop the boy racers, unless they are REALLY stupid.

Once, a long time ago, I was going 190+km/h+ in my brand new Golf at 3am on a straight bit of the motorway near Lille, with absolutely nobody else (and I hadn'nt been drinking). I had a pair of gendarme bikers hook on me, and they pulled me over....

I opened my window, and they came to me with big grins and "So, it it working as good as it looks?" had a small chat, a laugh and a "tss tss, careful tho" and they let me off just like that...

I got flashed in the summer doing about a ton and haven't heard a thing from the French authorities. I went to Brugge via the channel tunnel just before Christmas and the French police didn't stop me then either so they must just chuck the offences in the bin if they aren't French motorists as they obviously didn't record the offence and nick me on the way into France again.

Fines from France (fixed / mobile cameras) have never come back to the UK for as long as I've been going (every year for the past 7 years). That's not to say I totally abuse the speed system and cameras but sometimes there are places that I might visit that I don't know and bang "Flash flash". I'm like "meh".

Ultimately, the limits are higher than here anyway so stick with them if you can and soak up some of the best roads and courteous driving in Europe
