Seem to be starting a lot of these threads, mostly for reference for later purchases. Anyway, i'm in need of some new headphones for my iPod, on the way to/from school etc. anyone got any good recommendations?

The AKG 450's are very highly regarded at the £40 mark. They are very portable, have good sound quality and come with a carry case. They also have a low impedance at 32 ohms so can easily be driven to a high volume from an ipod.

£50 would be the creative aurvana live! (£60).. They are the best headphones for that amount of money as they have very decent foster drivers in them which have been used in £100 headphones in the past. Depends what type of sound you like but they are prob the best.

Whilst AKG are a good brand, those 450 are "on ear" not "over ear" so they will not be as comfortable or sound as good as over ear or IEM.

The thing I donjt like about the creative aurvana live. Is they are small on the ears, and dont cover them but sit on the ears and fell uncomfortable to me anyway.

TBH I have quite big ears and they fit around my ears quite well but they are a bit shallow and my ear can touch the outside. I don't think you will get much better for £60 as long as they fit though. I have owned quite a lot of headphones and they are the best I have tried at that price. Definately worth a try.. Also if they are too shallow u can raise the earpads with a peice of foam or mouse mat etc. so they will definately fit.

I guess shallow would be a better way of saying it. It does feel like they sit on the ears.

Never thought of trying to mod the thickness of the pads.

Denon AHD1100 are £53 at (can I name them?) a certain big river website.

RRP £119.99

I have a pair and they are a very exciting listen with a huge amount of bass, not a reference headphone but good if you want a warm sound and they are great at all music genres.

The aurvana live's have the same/similar internals, not sure which it is.

Was just looking for some new headphones and spotted that post so I went to the river website to have a look and they're now at £42.95!

Had to grab a set at that price so will update when they arrive next week with an opinion :)

I picked up a paif of Denon AHD1100 £37.39 inc postage.

They arrived today, and are a lot nicer fit than my creative aurvana lives (and I have done the foam mod to thicken the pads.

As for sound I would say that they are nicer than the CLAs. But Im no expert.

Prices in the rain forest seem to be all over the place atm!

Received my Denons today and I have to say, they're pretty awesome. Really clear and crisp sound and incredibly comfortable.

Top marks from me!
